The Protestant Church Walsheim is the church of the Protestant parish Walsheim in the church district ( dean's office ) Zweibrücken of the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate . The church is a typical example of a Romanesque village church. In the list of monuments of the Saarland, the church is a single monument listed.

history

The church dates back to the 12th century and was originally dedicated to St. Michael . The old square tower with a double-sided gable roof , which is one of the oldest from the group of "Hornbacher towers", also dates from this time . The sound arcades with the central column also show the Hornbach influence. In 1289 a Gothic choir was added and the church of St. Margaretha and All Saints was consecrated.

From the 17th to the 19th century (1856) the church was a simultaneous church and served both Protestants and Catholics. The Catholics added their own sacristy in 1689 , which was torn down again in 1855. In 1750 the church was rebuilt, with the nave being changed in a baroque style. In 1855 today's entrance portal with a vestibule behind it was set up in the tower. Restorations took place in 1945–50 and 1972–73 .

Furnishing

In the east wall of the choir there is a sacrament niche with tracery and a so-called "Oculus Dei". Worth noting inside the church is the altar of sandstone with Gothic consecration crosses from the 15th century.

organ

The organ of the church was built in 1958 by Hugo Mayer Orgelbau ( Heusweiler ). The single-manual instrument originally had 7 registers and is built into the side of the parapet of the gallery . The console is attached directly to the organ case behind it. The wind chests are mechanical slide chests. Around 1975 the pneumatically controlled Dulzian 16 ′ in the pedal was removed for reasons of space. Since then the organ has only had 6 registers. In 2005 it was restored by Dietmar Schömer ( Bliesransbach ).
