Filming began on February 15, 2018 and ended after 45 days of shooting on April 30, 2018. The film was shot in France, in Baikonur in Kazakhstan, in the star- studded Russian city of Svjosdny Gorodok and in the European Astronaut Center in Cologne. In preparation for her role, Green is said to have undertaken training with the spaceman Thomas Pesquet , who was in space for six months on board the International Space Station from November 2016 to June 2017. Georges Lechaptois acted as cameraman .

The film music was composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto . The soundtrack, which comprises a total of 15 pieces of music, was released for download by Milan Records on November 22, 2019.

The film was screened from September 7, 2019 at the Toronto International Film Festival and presented at the Festival Internacional de Cine de San Sebastián that same month . In January 2020 there was a screening at the Palm Springs International Film Festival . Since the film had already been selected for the 55th edition of the Karlovy Vary Film Festival , but it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, screenings took place in early July 2020 as part of the “KVIFF at Your Cinema” initiative, where it was one of 16 Films was shown for nine days in various cinemas in the Czech Republic.
