Pure luck (original title: Pure Luck ), also pure luck - stupid looks stupid , is an American film from 1991 . The film is a remake of the French comedy The Horny Ox and His Draft Horse ( La chèvre ) from 1981.

action

The clumsy millionaire daughter Valerie Highsmith disappears after a streak of bad luck while on vacation in Mexico . Her wealthy father then hires the aging private investigator Ray Campanella to find his beloved daughter. Campanella remains unsuccessful at first, Highsmith is convinced by the psychologist Monosoff to let the accountant Eugene Proctor, who works for Highsmith, a similar unlucky person like Valerie, accompany Campanella and to start a second search.

In fact, a first clue emerges when Procter bumps his head against the same glass door at the Mexican airport as Valerie weeks earlier in the hands of the American petty crook Frank Grimes. When Procter is robbed and beaten up in a bar, Campanella searches for the robbers and comes across Grimes. Campanella forces him to drive with him and Procter. When they stop due to a mishap of Procters and shortly afterwards shoot the chasing robbers Grimes, the latter states that Valerie has only brought him bad luck.

The police inform Campanella that the robber boss put Valerie on a plane that is said to have crashed. Highsmith instructs Campanella to rent a plane and fly the plane route. Procter is allergic to a bee sting on the plane and is admitted to a mission hospital after an emergency landing. There he learns from a burned Indian that their village burned down due to a woman's mistake. The Indian reacts in panic when Campanella holds the picture of Valerie in front of his face. The two seekers drive into the village, Procter is informed by Campanella that he was only pretended to be told by Highsmith that he was the head of the investigation team. The enraged Proctor rushes on Campanella, but hits the jeep's bumper.

Proctor is given a head bandage in a hospital. He wakes up at the same time as Valerie, who is suffering from amnesia and has the same head bandage in the next bed . The two go outside on a wooden pier. While Campanella recognizes Valerie from a distance, the end of the pier breaks off. In the last shot you can see Valerie and Proctor standing on the pier part and heading for a waterfall.
