The Régiment de Dauphin-Étranger cavalerie was a regiment of heavy cavalry in the Kingdom of France . Since it consisted mainly of foreign soldiers, it was a so-called foreign regiment and had the designation "Étranger" in its name.

Formation history

  • March 12, 1674: Establishment of the Régiment de Dauphin-Étranger cavalerie
  • December 1, 1761: On the Eyes and the Régiment Dauphin cavalerie incorporated

Mestres de camp lieutenants

The regiment was commanded by the Mestre de camp-lieutenant (also called Mestre de camp en second), as the actual Mestre de camp was the Dauphin of France , who was not available for such tasks.

The regiment carried standards made of blue silk.

Battle calendar

The regiment was formed in 1674 from individual companies, which in 1688 after the Treaty of Aachen and the end of the War of Devolution were redundant but not dismissed.

War of the Polish Succession

  • 1734 and 1735: Operations with the Armée du Rhin (Rhine Army) in Germany

War of the Austrian Succession

  • 1742: Deployment in Bavaria
  • 1743: in Alsace
  • 1744: Garrison in Zabern
  • 1745: With the army on the Rhine
  • 1746 to 1748: Campaigns in Flanders

Seven Years War

At the beginning of the Seven Years' War the regiment consisted of only two companies and took part in the campaigns in Germany. It stood on August 1, 1757 on the Weser . In the same year it took winter quarters in Brilon .

With the reorganization of the French cavalry in 1761, the regiment was abdicated on December 1 and the remaining riders were incorporated into the Régiment de Dauphin-cavalerie .
