The Rötenbach is a stream in northeastern Baden-Württemberg, 7.4 km long, which flows into the Kocher from the right at Obergröningen - Algishofen . Its upper course is the Hohlenbach .

geography

Source and history

The Rötenbach rises as a Hohlenbach in the wooded southern Limpurger Mountains in the triangle between the three hamlets of Sulzbach- Hohenberg in the northwest, Bühlerzell - Gerabronn in the northeast and Abtsgmünd - Wegstetten in the south. The uppermost source is located in the western tip of the Adelmannsfeldener municipality in the northern Abtswald , about 300 m southeast of the southern Altenberg summit at about 485  m above sea level. NN , in a right bend of the forest path ascending from the south-west of the Abtsklinge , which then follows the young stream on its entire initial section of the river towards east-south-east.

On this, the Rötenbach runs about 1.7 km north of the Breitengehrn in an initially very shallow basin, which runs into smaller side streams, partly through small ponds, until the 0.9 km Seebach from the Spitzklinge flows into it from the north . Its valley hollow continues uphill over the permanently water-bearing section to the northwest to at least the 0.8 hectare alder swamp pond, dammed up by the dam of the dust road from Wegstetten to Gerabronn; If the mountain-side peak of the lake were used as the origin, the Seebach would then be at least 1.8 km in length even longer than the official source branch. After the confluence of the two streams, the Hohlenbach turns in the direction of the inflow of the Seebach to the south and now begins to deepen.

Over the next 1.3 km it is reached from the left by three brooks from the Hinterbüchelberg forest to the east , namely the Büchelberger Bach (0.9 km), the Höferbach (0.6 km) and the Hölzlesbach (1.1 km). Only then does the first significant right-hand tributary Christlesbach (1.2 km) flow from the northern edge of the Wegstetter clearing island. Near its mouth, in the first small clearing on the brook, the few buildings of the Abtsgmünder settlement area Oberhohlenbach stand . For the next kilometer, the valley floor, which is hardly more than 50 m wide, remains open and the Altholzbach (0.6 km), which rises at the western slope of the Höfenberg, flows in from the left. Between the next right tributaries Wegstetter Waldbach (1.3 km, flows from the southern edge of the clearing island of the eponymous Höhenweiler in the west through the Luderklinge ) and the brook from the Schlagklinge (0.7 km), the few buildings of Mittelhohlenbach are distributed in the narrow left one Au. After another, 0.6 km long stream from the left, the floodplain closes. In the briefly following forest section, a stream flows from the Gewann Mühlhalde of the small clearing island of the Gschwendhof from the right .

After about 0.3 km there is again a valley meadow in the floodplain, before the valley floor, after the confluence of a 0.7 km long creek from the left and the creek from the right from the Gschwendklinge , which borders the corridor of the Gschwendhof to the south, for the last time closes just 0.2 km. From here at the latest, the stream is now called Rötenbach . The meadow ground then widens in a wedge shape to over twice the previously existing width, here, below an elongated, 0.2 hectare trout pond, lies the hamlet of "Hinterer" Rötenbach, comprising only a dozen buildings, to the left of the stream, which runs here at the right foot of the slope . The Bastelwaldbach (0.5 km) flows towards it from the east , then the valley axis and stream turn almost 6.0 km below the source for the rest of the course to the southwest.

After a short narrowing, the valley now widens, at the level of the following settlement “Vorderer” Rötenbach, the corridor climbs up the slopes for the first time, right up to the Höhenweiler Rötenberg . Behind the last valley hamlet “Vorderer” Rötenbach, the holiday home colony Wahlenhalden is located on the upper slope on the right, half a kilometer further on the Rötenbach flows after a run of 7.4 km at 353  m above sea level. NN from the right at Abtsgmünd -Algishofen in its north loop in the cooker .

Catchment area

The Rötenbach has a catchment area of 12.2 km². It is over 5.5 km long in north-south direction and about 3.0 km wide at the widest point across it. In the section from northwest ( Altenberg ) to east ( Höfenberg ) rivers compete with the Bühler , namely the Gerabronner Bach in the north, the ( Bühlerzell -Steinenbühler) Scheffelbach and a stream that opens at Adelmannsfelden-Hirschbach in the northwest and the (Abtsgmünd- Hinterbüchelberger ) Steinbach in the East. All other streams beyond the watershed flow to the boiler: In the southeast of like the Rötenbach oriented Maisbach , the south one against Obergröningen - specialist from the Brastel opening out shorter stream, in the southwest of the stream running through the lower Gröninger inch blade and the feudal Bach and finally in the Pacific Northwest Nägelesbach .

At the middle course of the Rötenbach there are two tiny settlements in the narrow Au on the Abtsgmünder district, Ober- and Mittelhohlenbach. On the lower reaches the hamlet "Hinterer Rötenbach" lies entirely in the municipality of Abtsgmünd, the "Vordere Rötenbach" is partly part of Abtsgmünd and partly part of Obergröningen .

Of the other settlements in the catchment area, the Wahlenhalden hillside settlement is also divided between these two communities. The hamlet of Wegstetten belongs to Abtsgmünd to the right of the Rötenbach , a farm from the hamlet of Dinkbühl, and the Gschwendhof and the hamlet of Rötenberg. On the left, the hamlets Höfenhölzle and Seelach are also part of Abtsgmünd .

Overall, the Rötenbach catchment area is divided into a very narrow strip north of the Kocher, with the shares of the "Vorderen Rötenbach" and Wahlenhalden, which is part of Obergröningen; two together roughly the same size snippets of Sulzbach-Laufener unsettled terrain in the west and northwest; about a third of the Adelmannsfelden forest area in the north and almost two thirds of the Abtsgmünder district with all other settlement areas.

Over two thirds of the catchment area is made up of forest, and the overall settlement density is very low.

landscape

Forestry dominates in the catchment area. On some corridor islands on the heights, especially to the right of the valley, agriculture is practiced. In "Hinteren Rötenbach" there is a small pond farm (trout farm) and a local restaurant.

The catchment area of the Rötenbach is rich in natural biotopes, especially in wetlands both in the forest and in open terrain. This includes the area of Seebach and the ostsüdöstlichen caves Bach -Oberlaufs the coastal zone at the alder swamp pond , several wetlands and ponds, including ancient fish ponds of the deserted village Vorhardsweiler . At the confluence of these two source branches there is a quarry forest in the estuary floodplain. The following southern course of the Hohlenbach / Rötenbach oscillates in its narrow, predominantly open floodplain between the foot of the slopes and shows undisturbed small-scale windings; in the open country it is accompanied by wood on the banks. Numerous streams flow in here from both sides, mostly in small, natural blades . Wet meadows and a wet meadow fallow are at the "Hinteren" Rötenbach in the Rötenbach -Aue as well as in the south of the clearing island around the Gschwendhof on the embankment down to the Gschwendklinge .

In the open corridor around the Gschwendhof and near Rötenberg there are a number of field hedges and trees.

The nature reserve Büchelberger Grat and the surrounding area protrudes to the left of the valley around Abtsgmünd- Hofenhölzle into the catchment area. The Rötenberg-Rötenbachtal landscape protection area extends over the valley and the right slope on the lower reaches .

Extensive natural monuments in the catchment area are the Johannesbrunnen on the left slope opposite the Oberhohlenbach, a row of trees on the edge of the northeastern Höfenberg above the Lias stratification and a wetland below the left bank of the floodplain just before the mouth.

traffic

The entire course of the Rötenbach is accompanied by a nearby forest path, which in the area of the Seebach tributary is part of the public forest connection road between Sulzbach- Hohenberg and Abtsgmünd- Hinterbüchelberg in continuation of the coal road. Further down, it only becomes a public traffic route again from the "Hinteren" Rötenbach, which it opens up as a cul-de-sac from the B 19 in Kochertal. However, the path has been paved a long time beforehand.

geology

The course of the Rötenbach begins in the Oberkeuper and only reaches the lower colored marl ( Steigerwald formation ) of the Mittelkeuper in the vicinity of the Kochertal .

The side creek that delimits the southern floodplain near Mittelhohlenbach previously flows through an abandoned quarry on the left slope in the so-called Teufelskanzel , in which the Stubensandstein ( Löwenstein formation ) is exposed.
