rFactor is a racing simulation for personal computers . The architecture allows in principle any type of four-wheeled motor vehicle to be operated. A precise tire model, complex aerodynamics , true-to-the-original mechanics and driving physics , day and night changes as well as driver changes underpin the claim to represent a particularly realistic racing simulation.

development

rFactor was developed by Image Space Incorporated (ISI), who have many years of experience in the development of commercial and military simulations. The previous release was F1 Challenge '99 -'02 which was released by EA Sports .

In addition to rFactor, the rendering engine gMotor 2.0 was also used in the GT racing game series by SimBin , which includes GTR - FIA GT Racing , GT Legends , Race07 and GTR Evolution .

Release

The publisher ISI also released the game as a DVD version on September 21, 2007, after it was previously only available as a download version that had to be activated via an Internet key. Since May 2, 2015, rFactor can also be found on the Valve Steam gaming platform .

Modifications

RFactor enjoys particular popularity in the community due to the possibility of almost completely modifying the game and adapting it to one's own needs and interests. The so-called "mods" play a central role here, and are usually made available on the Internet by individuals or specialized modding groups free of charge. Individual vehicles, tracks, entire racing series or functions such as telemetry or the KERS known from Formula 1 can be retrofitted, which means that the range of functions of the software can be expanded to almost every imaginable racing scenario. Production vehicles, rallybollids, monster trucks and even experimental racing boats are available. In general, the majority of mods today are far superior to the quality and detail of the standard vehicles and routes in rFactor.

The publication of a Porsche 997 GT3 Cup Mod by EnduRacers , which was in the final stage of development, was prevented by Porsche in September 2012 because the automaker feared competition for its own project.

successor

The successor rFactor 2 has been available since March 13, 2013 . You can only buy and download this online. Image Space Incorporated programmed the development of the successor at the beginning and handed it over to Studio397 in September 2016 .
