history

Parent clubs

Main article: 1. SC Göttingen 05

The club was founded on June 30, 1905 as Göttinger FC 05 . On May 4, 1920, the club was renamed VfR Göttingen 05 , before it was named 1. SC Göttingen 05 on May 27, 1921 . After the dissolution in 1945, the club was re-established as SV Schwarz-Gelb 05 Göttingen and renamed again to 1. SC Göttingen 05 in July 1948 . In 2001 the association had to file for bankruptcy. Since the creditors did not agree to the settlement proposed by the judge , the association was dissolved on September 18, 2003 and struck from the register of associations.

1. FC Göttingen 05 was founded as a rescue club for the youth teams . On March 4, 2005, this club merged with RSV Geismar , which was founded on June 15, 1909 as FC Viktoria Geismar , to form RSV Göttingen 05 . The RSV Geismar cooperated from the 2000/01 season with the 1. SC Göttingen 05 in the junior division. In terms of sport, the first men's team of RSV Geismar did not get beyond the district league.

The first men's team of RSV Geismar had lost almost the entire team to other clubs after relegation to the district league. The 1. FC Göttingen 05 , however, had collected a district league level club for the coming season, but would have to play as a new club in the 2nd circuit class. The boards of both clubs then agreed that the Göttingen team should appear under the name RSV Göttingen 05 in the 2004/05 season . On July 1, 2005, the merger was also legally completed.

In the first season the team was able to win the championship in the eight-class Braunschweig 4 district class. Four points behind master TSV Landolfshausen , third place was achieved one year later. In the following season 2007/08 the RSV was champion of the district league and rose to the Braunschweig district league . There the team met their longstanding local rival SVG 07 for the first time . After a fourth and a fifth place finally succeeded in the 2010/11 season the championship in the now called Landesliga Braunschweig division. The highlight of the season was the 1-1 draw in the local derby at the SVG in front of 2,500 spectators.

With the promotion, the RSV plays in the 2011/12 season in the fifth-class Oberliga Niedersachsen, where the team finished 13th in the 2011/12 season. On September 20, 2012 the board of the RSV Göttingen 05 decided unanimously to outsource the football department from the club and to run it again under the name 1. SC Göttingen 05 from the 2013/14 season. The old yellow and black coat of arms is also intended to replace the current black, yellow and green RSV coat of arms. However, the spin-off took place under the name I. SC Göttingen 05 and only affected the first team.

I. SC Göttingen 05 (since 2013)

However, the new name did not bring the club any success. Despite four wins from the last four games, the team was initially determined to be relegated because their direct competitor Rotenburger SV beat VfL Bückeburg at the same time . The subsequent relegation brought the license refusal for the regional league club SV Wilhelmshaven , which also received no approval for the Oberliga Niedersachsen. The season was overshadowed by internal disputes between the patron Michael Wucherpfennig and the coach Hansi Ehrlich.

Due to the relegation that was not established until late, the club was unable to put together a team suitable for the top division for the following 2014/15 season . In terms of sport, Göttingen 05 did not apply for a license for the 2015/16 league season and finally rose to the top of the league under coach Najeh Braham . There, the Göttingen team were relegated as fourth in the table, but remained a national league team due to a series of fortunate circumstances. First of all, FC Braunschweig withdrew its team from the current state league season. Then the Goslarer SC 08 was relegated from the regional league and was classified in the regional league because the club had failed to apply for a license for the upper league. As a result, Goslar's second team had to be relegated. Since the MTV Gifhorn rose from the Braunschweig regional league and no team from the region was relegated from the upper league, the Göttingen team fell in love with the regional league.

A year later, he was relegated to the district league, which was followed by direct resurgence after a duel with local rivals Sparta Göttingen .

The stadium is located east of the Leine and north of the Sparkassen-Arena .

Since the promotion to the league in 2011, the Jahnstadion has been the sporting home of I. SC Göttingen 05. The stadium, which was opened in 1913, offers space for up to 17,000 spectators. The main grandstand offers 5,000 covered seats. The stadium also met the requirements for the new regional league for the 2012/13 season . The predecessor club 1. SC Göttingen 05 already used the Jahnstadion.

Before that, the club used the sports field on Benzstrasse as its home ground . Since there were repeated complaints from residents due to the noise and the space did not meet the requirements of the Lower Saxony Oberliga, the club decided to move to the Jahnstadion.
