administration

Ra is administered by the Ra Provincial Council , currently under the direction of Simione Naikarua , former head of Airport Fiji Limited and Chief Executive Officer of Nasinu Town Council .

In 2015 there was an attempt to found a "Christian state" (Christian free state) in Ra. The then Chief of Police, Ben Groenewald , viewed it as a harmless sect, but Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama was concerned and ordered the army to disband it.

The cult claimed that Fiji's Constitution violated the UN's indigenous rights . But in order to receive aid from the UN, an independent state had to submit an application. That is why the Christian State was founded. Most of the protagonists were imprisoned.
