Rabea Schöneborn (born March 13, 1994 in Troisdorf , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German , former modern pentathlete who switched to athletics and has specialized in medium , long , cross , road and half marathons . While her focus was initially on the shorter long-distance distances, Schöneborn is now tackling the longer running distances.
career path
Schöneborn is studying psychology at the Humboldt University of Berlin and in 2018 completed a semester abroad at the Texas A&M University (Texas A&M for short, also known as TAMU) in Corpus Christi, Texas .
Athletic career
Rabea Schöneborn initially competed in the modern pentathlon . The extensive training program for this sport later did not go well with her studies, so from 2016 she concentrated on the athletic running disciplines.
Schöneborn was already successful in running competitions in 2016. Officially still at the SSF Bonn, she started for the Wasserfreunde Spandau 04 at the BIG 25 Berlin and achieved a double victory with her sister Deborah over the ten kilometer distance . At the German U23 championships , she came 8th in the 10 km road race.
In 2017 Schöneborn took bronze twice: at the German Cross Country Championships with the team and at the 10 km road run of the German University Championships . In each case she reached the 5th place over 10,000 meters in the German championships and over 3,000 meters in the German university championships.
In 2018, Schönborn won several competitions during her semester abroad in the first half of the year. For example in the indoor season over 3000 meters at the Texas Tech Shootout in Lubbock and the Southland Conference Challenge in Birmingham (Alabama) , where she even set a competition record over 5000 meters with 16: 26.46 min. The time was also the fourth fastest in Conference history . In the open-air season, Schöneborn won over 5000 meters at the UTSA Invitational in San Antonio and took further podium places in San Antonio: at the UIW Invitational (2nd place over 1500 m) and the Southland Conference Challenge (2nd place over 10,000 m and 3rd place over 5000 m). At the German championships she came in 9th place over 5000 meters and was German 10 km road running champion with the team.
In 2019 Schöneborn took 4th place at the German Indoor Championships over 3000 meters and reached the same position at the German Championships over 10,000 meters. With the team she became German cross-country champion . She had to cancel the half marathon at the Summer Universiade in Naples due to a foot injury and then take a recovery break.
In addition to the championship races, Schöneborn also won the women's run in Berlin and took 4th place in the Dresden city run . In her half-marathon debut at the Paderborn Easter run , she was the best German runner in 1: 14.09 h, second, and no German man was faster than her.
Club affiliations
Schöneborn has been with LG Nord Berlin , parent club SC Tegeler Forst , since 2017 . She started for the SSF Bonn until 2016 .
