history
Radgendorf probably has its origin in a Slavic round . Radeckindorf was first mentioned in writing in 1391 in the interest lists of the Zittau Hospital St. Jakob. The place name is derived from the Slavic personal name Radek . Radgendorf was always one of the Zittau council villages, but with the exclusion of the fiefdom directly subordinate to the Oberlausitzer Landvogtei. In 1506 the Oybiner Cölestiner had a pond built for a mill southwest of Radgendorf am Scheidebach. The Kretscham was built in 1727. In 1736 Radgendorf consisted of two feudal estates, three farms, three gardeners and eleven cottagers.
To 1869 Radgendorf grew to 39 smallholdings - with mostly in Umgebinde construction built Weber houses. The main buildings were the two feudal estates, the Kretscham, the schoolhouse, the parish hall, the wine house, the forge and the syringe house. The house weaving was given up at the turn of the century, instead the cottagers worked in the industrial plants of Zittau , Hirschfelde and Reichenau or at the “Herkules” trade union in Türchau .
In 1959 the LPG Frischer Wind was founded in Radgendorf . The forced collectivization of farmers was particularly successful in Radgendorf, and in December 1959 the community became the first fully cooperative village in the Zittau district. In 1965 Radgendorf was incorporated into Eckartsberg , since 1994 it has been a district of Mittelherwigsdorf . A public rubbish dump was set up in the former gravel pit at the brand in 1984 and closed in 1989; Between 1991 and 1993 it was used again as a garbage dump for the district of Zittau.
Place name
The forms of the name Radeckindorf (1391), Ratchindorf (1415), Rattgenndorff (1524), Ratgendorff (1732) and Rattgendorf (1791) are documented. The village has been known as Radgendorf since 1836.

Townscape
Radgendorf has a large block corridor . The area covered with a fertile loess clay cover has been completely deforested and is largely used as arable land. The extensive wet meadows at the confluence of the Radgendorfer water with the Fröschelbach up to its confluence with the Scheidebach serve as meadowland.
Most of the houses in Radgendorf are grouped in the hollow around the pond. There are five estates and a few houses above the hollow.
landfill
The gravel pit east of Radgendorf was used from 1984 to dump household waste from the Zittau district. Because of the lack of any protective measures, the dump was closed in 1989 after the fall of the Wall. The district of Zittau had the dump turned into a landfill, which was operated from 1991 to 1993. 75,000 m³ of old waste had to be relocated. In 1993 the landfill with a total area of 7 ha was closed. Their deposit area was approx. 5.2 hectares, on which approx. 500,000 m³ of household waste with a garbage thickness of approx. 22 to 32 m was deposited.
