Raffaello Martinelli (born June 21, 1948 in Villa d'Almé , Bergamo province , Italy ) is an Italian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Frascati .

Life

Raffaello Martinelli studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the seminary of Bergamo and at the Pontifical Roman Seminary . Martinelli received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Bergamo on April 8, 1972 . Martinelli received his doctorate in theology in 1978 at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome with a pastoral - catechetical dissertation entitled "Rinnovamento psicopedagogico della pastorale giovanile: ricerche e orientamenti" ("Psychological renewal of youth pastoral care : research and guidelines") . In 1979 he received his doctorate in education from the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan .

From 1974 to 1979 Raffaello Martinelli was vicar at Bergamo Cathedral . Then Martinelli was pastor of the parish of Santa Maria delle Grazie until 1980 . In 1980 he joined the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith . Raffaello Martinelli was the coordinator of the preparatory work for the Catechism of the Catholic Church . He then was the coordinator and editor in the Secretariat for the preparation of the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church . In addition, Martinelli was pastor of the parish Natività in Rome from 1980 to 1986 . On January 27, 1986, Pope John Paul II awarded him the honorary title of Chaplain to His Holiness ( Monsignor ). In 1987 Raffaello Martinelli became rector of the Collegio Ecclesiastico Internazionale “San Carlo” in Rome and Primicerius of the Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio e Carlo al Corso . On January 9, 1999, Martinelli was called to serve as office manager in the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. On July 10, 1999, John Paul II awarded him the title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness .

On July 2, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Bishop of Frascati. The episcopal ordination received his Benedict XVI. on September 12 of the same year in St. Peter's Basilica ; Co-consecrators were Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone SDB and the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith , William Joseph Cardinal Levada .

On December 22, 2009 Benedict XVI called him. as a member of the Congregation for the Processes of Beatification and Canonization .

At the invitation of Martinelli, Benedict XVI celebrated. on July 15, 2012 a mass in the Piazza San Pietro in Frascati.
