Rainer Frimmel
Rainer Frimmel (* 1971 in Vienna ) is an Austrian film director and screenwriter .
Life
Rainer Frimmel attended the College for Photography from 1992 to 1994 and in 1995 the course for camera assistance at the Graphic School in Vienna . For his photographic work he received scholarships abroad in Rome, Paris and New York. He has been working with Tizza Covi on projects in the fields of photography, theater and film since 1996, and in 2002 the two founded the film production company Vento Film . In 2001 they published Das ist alles, the first joint documentary, followed by the documentary Babooska in 2005 . The first jointly produced feature film La Pivellina (2009, also Die Kleine ) received multiple awards, including the Austrian contribution to the Oscar nominations in the category of best foreign language film for the 2011 Academy Awards . Five of the films published together ( Das ist alles , Babooska , La Pivellina , Der Glanz des Tages and Mister Universo ) were released on DVD as part of the Edition Austrian Film by Hoanzl and the Standard .
His documentary Recordings from the Underworld (again together with Tizza Covi) premiered in February at the Berlinale 2020 in the Panorama Documents section . As part of the Romy Awards 2020 , he was awarded for this film in the categories of Best Cinema Documentary and Best Cinema Production .
