Tizza Covi
Tizza Covi (* 1971 in Bolzano ) is an Italian film director , screenwriter and film editor who works mainly in Austria .
Life
From 1992 to 1994, Tizza Covi attended the photography college at the Graphic Arts Institute in Vienna . She then worked as a freelance photographer in Rome until 1998 , and received scholarships in Rome and Paris for her photographic work. She has been working with Rainer Frimmel on projects in the fields of photography, theater and film since 1996, and in 2002 the two founded the film production company Vento Film. In 2001 they published Das ist alles, the first joint documentary, followed by the documentary Babooska in 2005 .
The first jointly produced feature film La Pivellina (2009, also Die Kleine ) received multiple awards, including the Austrian contribution to the Oscar nominations in the category of best foreign language film for the 2011 Academy Awards .
Her second feature film, The Shine of the Day , premiered at the Locarno Festival and received the Max Ophüls Prize and the prize for the best Austrian feature film at Diagonale 2013.
Her third feature film, Mister Universo , premiered in the international competition in Locarno in 2016 and received several awards there, including an honorable mention from the international jury, the Europa Cinema Label and the FIPRESCI Prize from the international film critics.
Five of the films published together ( Das ist alles , Babooska , La Pivellina , Der Glanz des Tages and Mister Universo ) were released on DVD as part of the Edition Austrian Film by Hoanzl and the Standard .
In 2018 she was appointed to the jury for the international competition at the Locarno Festival .
Her documentary (again together with Rainer Frimmel) Recordings from the Underworld premiered at the Berlinale 2020 in the Panorama Documents section . As part of the Romy Awards 2020 , she was awarded for this film in the categories of Best Cinema Documentary and Best Cinema Production .
