Rainer Pawkowicz (born January 23, 1944 in Vienna , † March 28, 1998 in Graz ) was an Austrian politician ( FPÖ ). Pawkowicz was club chairman in the Vienna state parliament and municipal council , non-executive city ​​council in Vienna and a member of the national council .

education and profession

Pawkowicz attended elementary school in Knittelfeld and middle school in Vienna. After graduating from high school in 1962, Pawkowicz studied architecture at the Technical University of Vienna , where he completed his basic studies in 1973 with the academic degree Dipl.-Ing. completed. Pawkowicz continued his studies at the Graz University of Technology and received his doctorate in 1978. techn. Pawkowicz became a member of the Aldania Vienna fraternity during his studies in 1962 and was a member of the Olympia Vienna fraternity from 1967 to 1988 . He was twice chairman of the Vienna corporation ring.

Pawkowicz worked as a student trainee at various construction companies and in architectural offices as a planner and site manager. After completing his studies, he worked in the field of research organization and later carried out construction projects for the Austrian Academy of Sciences. From 1996 he was head of department in the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs, where he was most recently on leave due to his political activities without pay.

Pawkowicz was already involved in the Austrian student body at the university (student council for architecture and civil engineering, main committee of the Vienna University of Technology (deputy chair), central committee of the Austrian student body ) and was sworn in on November 3, 1978 as a member of the Vienna state parliament and municipal council. On December 9, 1987, he moved to the city senate, where he was a non-executive city council without a department. Pawkowicz was replaced by Hilmar Kabas as a city councilor on November 26, 1990 after winning a mandate in the 1990 National Council elections. Pawkowicz moved to the National Council, to which he was a member from November 5, 1990 to December 8, 1991. After the successful parliamentary and local council elections in Vienna in 1991 for the FPÖ , Pawkowicz returned on December 9, 1991 as club chairman in the Vienna regional parliament and local council. At the same time he was elected FPÖ regional party leader in 1991 and was a member of the Austrian delegation to the Council of Europe in 1991 and 1992. Under his leadership, the FPÖ subsequently achieved the best election result in its history in the state and municipal council elections in Vienna in 1996 with 27.9 percent and became the second strongest party. Pawkowicz held the office of regional party chairman and club chairman until his sudden death. After his death he was buried in the Vienna Central Cemetery .

His son Alexander Pawkowicz (* 1975) is also a member of the FPÖ in the Vienna state parliament and local council.
