The Ramselbruch is a nature reserve with a size of 53.09 hectares in the area of the municipality Hövelhof in the district of Paderborn . It has the number PB-023. The area was first designated as a protected area in the 1930s, making it one of the oldest nature reserves in East Westphalia-Lippe .

location

The Ramselbruch is located southeast of the Hövelhofer district of Riege within the Senne landscape in front of the Teutoburg Forest . The upper reaches of the Ems runs around 250 meters south of the protection area. The Gütersloh-Verl-Hövelhof railway line of the Teutoburg Forest Railway, which is only used irregularly, runs for around 700 meters through the Ramselbruch or forms its border.

Characteristic

The protective area of the Ramselbruch forms a diversely structured, predominantly moist biotope complex . In addition to the prevailing senne typical forest and wood stocks in the central area can be found in the area, smaller streams, heather moorland , gently undulating and lined by pine inland dunes and on the southwestern edge also fallow marsh areas and a well-arising from a silted pond Sumpfseggen- swamp.

In addition, as a result of drainage measures, there are more dry alder and birch forests on up to one meter thick fens. Often the alders stand on bulten . More humid remains of quarry forest can be found primarily in the area of a straightened stream flowing from a fish pond on the northern edge of the protection zone, which leads in a south-westerly direction through the Ramselbruch to the Ems.

flora

Within the small heather moor there are two types of cottongrass, the narrow-leaved cottongrass ( Eriophorum angustifolium ) and the vaginal cottongrass ( Eriophorum vaginatum ) . Several species of peat moss and the swamp fern ( Thelypteris palustris ) occur within the forest areas . In the field of internal Dünenheide plants grow like the heather ( Calluna vulgaris ) and the cranberry ( Vaccinium vitis-idaea ).

history

The area of the Ramselbruch, whose name "Ramsel", which occurs more frequently in northern Germany, is interpreted as "swampy lowland", lies on the southern edge of an Ice Age moraine wall . The loamy-clayey soil layer created by this situation leads to a back-up of the surface water, which leads to the formation of the quarry forest.

The current protection area of the Ramselbruch originally consisted of two parts. The western part was leased by the Münster Nature Conservation Association as early as 1930 and placed under protection in 1939 by an ordinance of the then administrative district of Minden . The first ordinance to place the eastern part under protection was issued in 1937. In 1969, the two areas were merged by the now responsible administrative district of Detmold. The ordinance on the Senne landscape plan was renewed in 1983.

In addition to the Langenberg pond , the Kipshagen ponds and the Furlbachtal , the Ramselbruch is one of the oldest protected areas in the Senne.
