The Rauchbühel is located in the Osterhorn group next to the city ​​of Salzburg (Salzburg Pre-Alps), in the municipality of Elsbethen , a neighboring town to the south. With a height of 988  m the mountain in the north is one of the highest in the municipality. The summit of the Rauchbühel is a secondary summit about 2 km south of the Gaisberg and about 2 km west of the Gurlspitze .
