Ray Stricklyn

Lewis Raymond Stricklyn (born October 8, 1928 in Houston , Texas , † May 14, 2002 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

Life

Lewis Raymond Stricklyn already played in the theater during his time in kindergarten and pursued his desire to become an actor during his school days. In 1950 he moved to New York City , where he made his Broadway debut just two years later . Three more years later he moved to Los Angeles , where he started his film career. As early as 1956 he played in several television series and six feature films, including The Last Car , Girl Without Dowry and Unleashed Youth . For his role in A Man in His Prime , he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for the first time in 1959 for Best Young Actor. Another nomination followed in 1961 for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal in The Plunderers .

His film career came to a standstill in the late 1960s, so that from 1973 he took over the public relations work for actors such as Bette Davis and Elizabeth Taylor in the West Coast office of John Springer Associates . With an appearance in the television series Detective Rockford - a call is enough , he started his acting career again in the late 1970s. He appeared increasingly in television series and played on the theater stage again. His last appearance was in 1998 in an episode of the sitcom The Nanny . He had been diagnosed with emphysema a year earlier , so he began to write his autobiography. With his 1999 autobiography Angels & Demons: One Actor's Journey Hollywood he had his coming-out .

On May 14, 2002, Stricklyn died of complications from his pulmonary emphysema. He was survived by his sister and long-time partner, theater director David Galligan, with whom he had lived since 1965.
