Reformed Church in Driever

The Reformed Church in the East Frisian Driever ( Westoverledingen ) was built in 1875 as a hall church.

history

In the Middle Ages, Driever belonged to the Leer provost in the diocese of Münster . In terms of church, the place was shaped by the Kommende Muhde , which was on the edge of the district. Nothing is known about the medieval church in Driever. Shortly after the Reformation , the congregation switched to the Reformed Confession. A new church was built in 1685 and a bell tower in 1696. In 1874/75 a new church was built at the same place, which was attached to the preserved bell tower in the west. The rectangular brick church is equipped with arched windows on the long sides and the east side. Diamond ornaments can be found below the windows. The outer walls are provided with a surrounding frieze. Since 1987 the Reformed parishes Ihrhove, Esklum, Driever and Grotegaste have been combined and share two pastors.

Furnishing

Furnishing

The interior is simply designed and is closed off by a vaulted wooden barrel. The oldest piece of furniture in the church is the octagonal sandstone baptismal font, which was taken over from the medieval church. It bears the inscription of the Bible verse: "I have called you by your name, you are mine" ( Isa 43,1  LUT ). A communion goblet was probably made in Emden or Leer around 1700 in the shape of a so-called thorn wreath cup and was originally a wedding cup. It shows three women who symbolize the virtues of faith, hope and wisdom with their symbols cross, anchor and mirror. The pulpit was made in the course of the new church building. The three rings on its sound cover are symbols of the Trinity of God.

organ

The organ was created by the Rohlfing brothers from Osnabrück in 1885 on the east gallery with ten stops on a manual and pedal . The work is almost completely preserved and was restored by Bartelt Immer in 2006 .
