The Rainbow Group in the European Parliament (English Rainbow Group , RBW) was a regionalist faction in the European Parliament between 1989 and 1994.
Already after the European elections in 1984 a rainbow parliamentary group was founded, in which the green and the regionalist parties united in the European Free Alliance (EFA) came together. From the European elections in 1989 , both the EFA and the green parties emerged stronger, so that the green parties founded their own parliamentary group in the European Parliament under the name DIE GRÜNEN . The new rainbow faction consisted almost exclusively of members of the EFA.
The group was chaired by Birgit Bjørnvig (FolkB) and Jaak Vandemeulebroucke (VU).
In the European elections in 1994 , the EFA was only able to win four seats that were not enough for a parliamentary group of its own (the membership of the Lega Nord, which had won 5 seats, was suspended). The remaining members formed the new parliamentary group of the European Radical Alliance with some radical liberal parties .
