geography
course
The Reichenbach rises in the Lower Vogelsberg north-northeast of Oberreichenbach . Its source is on the southeast slope of the Great Hohberg ( 460.3 m ).
The Reichenbach flows mainly to the south-south-west. Initially it runs through Oberreichenbach and then through Unterreichenbach . From the Birstein , which then flows through , it is accompanied by the B 276 . This is where by far the longest tributary of the Reichenbach flows into the Riedbach on the right . The latter flows after the village between the mountains Kutschenstein ( 368.3 m ) and Poppenstein (approx. 380 m ) in the west and Großer Kreuzberg ( 313.7 m ) in the east. After passing the Neuhäuser Weiher , it runs through the Hellstein district, which is part of the Brachttal community .
To the south of Hellstein, the Reichenbach takes up the Sotzbach on the left , and shortly thereafter flows west of the Alsbusch mountain ( 326.7 m ) into the Bracht Kinzig tributary flowing there from the north-west . The Brachttal district of Schlierbach is located southwest of its mouth .
The Reichenbach (front left) flows into the Bracht (from right to back)

Flood protection
A flood retention basin was planned near Hellstein for flood protection on the lower reaches of the Reichenbach and the villages on the Bracht and Kinzig . The basin with a storage volume of 1.47 million cubic meters would have cost at least 19.25 million euros. However, due to the expected massive ecological intervention, it did not go beyond the planning status.
