history

From the foundation to the Reformation

Reichenbach is located in the middle of the 800 Hufen Landes, which Emperor Barbarossa, at the request of Otto, Margrave of Meißen, confirmed as a foundation for the establishment of a monastery in 1162. If you believe the document from that year, Reichenbach was founded before 1162 as a two-sided row village with forest hooves as part of the German East Settlement at the instigation of Margrave Otto. It is one of the villages that were donated to the Altzella monastery in 1162.

Reichenbach was first mentioned as Rychenbach in 1428 .

Place name forms

The spelling of the place name Reichenbach has varied over the course of history. The following forms have come down to us from historical sources.

1428: Rychenbach

1451: Richinbach

1501: Reichenbach

1875: Reichenbach b. Siebenlehn

The place name is derived from settlement on the (water, fish) rich stream . This is difficult to understand today due to changed topographical conditions. Around 1600 there were still several streams that no longer exist on the plateau. It cannot be ruled out that the changes in surface waters are related to the former mining. It is known that pits were abandoned because the floods could not be mastered.

From the Reformation to the present

Reichenbach Church

A few years after the secularization of the Altzella monastery in 1540, the village came under the ownership of Ulrich von Mordeisen . After his death it was sold by the heir to the Saxon Elector. This made the village of Amtsdorf in Amt Nossen .

Reichenbach is parish to Langhennerdorf . Since the way to the church was quite long, a small church was built in the village in 1727/1728. From 1856 Reichenbach belonged to the Nossen court office and from 1875 to the Freiberg district administration . As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , Reichenbach came to the Freiberg district in the Chemnitz district in 1952 (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Freiberg district of Saxony from 1990 .

On March 1, 1994 Seifersdorf was incorporated into Reichenbach. With the incorporation on January 1, 1999, Reichenbach became a district of Großschirma, which in 2003 received city rights . Reichenbach has been part of the Central Saxony district since 2008. Ecclesiastically, place belongs to the parish of Langhennersdorf .

Attractions

In the local area there are still some well-preserved half-timbered houses from the 17th century, which are particularly noticeable due to their St. Andrew's crosses in the facade design.
