Reiherhalde Morstein is a nature reserve in the area of the Baden-Württemberg town of Gerabronn .
Characteristics
The nature reserve was already designated as a higher nature conservation authority by ordinance of the Württemberg Ministry of Culture of February 19, 1938 and has a size of around 7.2 hectares. It is listed under the protected area number 1.006. The CDDA code for the nature reserve is 82386 and corresponds to the WDPA ID .
Location and description
The protected area is located west of the hamlet of Morstein, which belongs to the Dünsbach district of the city of Gerabronn . It is located in the natural area of 126 Kocher-Jagst Plains within the main natural unit 12 Gäuplatten in the Neckar and Tauberland . It is largely enclosed by the landscape protection area no. 1.27.043 Middle Jagsttal with side valleys and adjacent areas .
Protection purpose
The main protection purpose is the preservation of the former breeding ground for herons, which has been known for centuries. The herons brooded there almost exclusively on old linden trees, with each tree bearing several (up to 15) clumps. In addition, as in all heron colonies, the black and red kites usually nestled .
