The Wacholderberg-Geigerswasen nature reserve is located in the city of Crailsheim in the Schwäbisch Hall district in Baden-Württemberg .

location

The area extends southeast of the Crailsheim core city from the low watershed to the Jagst tributary Trutenbach over a small side valley across to the north to the northern edge of the Crailsheim village Westgartshausen , through which the Hammerbach runs westwards to the Trutenbach. In the south the state road L 2218 runs on the left ridge of the Hammerbachtal, in the north in the Trutenbachtal the K 2554 between the district Goldbach and Crailsheim. In the east there is forest on the slope of the Crailsheimer Hardt , part of the Keuper mountain landscape of the Frankenhöhe , further west the B 290 runs in front of the valley basin of the Jagst through southern districts of Crailsheim. The area lies on the natural border between the Hardt and the Crailsheim Bay sub-area of the Hohenlohe and Haller Plains in the west. The 15.4 hectare nature reserve Hammersbachtal extends to the east, northeast of Westgartshausen .

meaning

The 30.8 hectare area has been registered under NSG no. 1,206 designated as a nature reserve. It is a "scenic gypsum keuper step edge " with juniper heather , which has arisen through culturally and historically significant use (sheep grazing). There are "diverse habitats: open, barren heathland , loose trees and a small wetland with brook floodplain and brook woods ."
