The Trutenbach , called Mühlbach on the upper course in the Goldbach district marking , is an almost 6 km long stream in the urban area of Crailsheim in the district of Schwäbisch Hall in northeastern Baden-Württemberg , which flows into the upper Jagst from the right and east-northeast in front of the southern outskirts of the old town .

geography

course

The Mühlbach rises from a forest spring at about 510  m above sea level. NHN on the upper south-west slope of the Kappelwald in Gewann Ziegelschlag , which is about 1.2 km northeast of the center of the Crailsheim village of Goldbach and only about 0.4 km on this side of the city boundary to the municipality of Kreßberg that runs through the high forest . The young stream runs through one of the landscape typical Keuper sound in the woods southwest of the village Goldbach to, at the crossing across the mountainside forest path Wolfsklingenweg doing a bunch of running small side blades to below it attracts the most entrenched bed in itself weitendem Hangtal in small meanders. After about 0.7 km it reaches the lower tree line and immediately flows through two mill ponds with a total area of 0.7 ha. The larger first is partially lined by a reed bed, the second leaves the Mühlbach piped and now runs mostly or completely underground Goldbach and its soft area near the route of the district road K 2654 Kreßberg-Waldtann-Goldbach-Crailsheim in a more westerly direction.

After the end of the village, it begins its westward course through a wide, damp meadow, where it immediately takes up the 1.5 km long meadow ditch from the east-southeast. It now runs closer to the left, significantly lower ridge of the Schlechtenberg hill , while from the right, not very long ditches from floodplain springs feed it in front of the district road that accompanies it at a distance on the right and the high mountain spur that also extends westwards behind it. The Mühlbach crosses the Goldbach district into the district of central Crailsheim, where it is then called Trutenbach for its remaining 2.6 km run .

He now makes a short arc to the left, in the course of which the 1.1 km long Breitenseebach falls to him from the north and this time from beyond the district road in Gewann Schleifsee, winding south around flat hills, which from sources in the flat meadow bay Breitensee is in front of him still up to about 470  m above sea level. NHN uplifting, here Eichwald called right mountain spur is fed.

Immediately after this tributary, the almost 6-hectare Lindenensee wetland begins on the left side of the river , through which the 1.0 km long Lindenbach stream from the east is now 409  m above sea level. NHN is approaching. The Trutenbach now moves westwards again and after less than half a kilometer its most important tributary flows into the Hammerbach , a 5.1 km long creek running westward in an arc that stretches slightly to the left, which alone contributes a large third of the catchment area. Its mouth is on the eastern boundary of Crailsheim's settlement. The much smaller Wiesenbach , which comes from the county road in the north-northeast, runs along this less than 50 meters further .

The Trutenbach runs through the newer eastern settlement parts of Crailsheim in an initially 50 meter wide, more and more sunken strip of land, which then expands in the area of the former Spitalsee . In its center line, the Trutenbach then turns last to the southwest. On the right hill in this section is the southern old town, on the left the now completely overbuilt Pleateur Kreuzberg . In the area of an old suburb at its foot, the Trutenbach crosses under the federal highway 290 in the area of a gas station and after another 150 meters flows through the right floodplain at 399  m above sea level. NHN from the right and finally northeast into the upper Jagst , about 200 meters south of the city museum in the hospital complex on the southern outskirts of Crailsheim and about 200 meters below a weir in the river.

The Trutenbach is, calculated from the source of the Mühlbach, 5.8 km long and falls on this route by about 111 meters; its mean bottom slope is about 19 ‰. The initial gradient on the 1.8 km long section of the Mühlbach up to the inlet of the Wiesengraben shortly after Goldbach at about 428  m above sea level. NHN reaches about 46 ‰, while the Mühlbach / Trutenbach makes the remaining two thirds of its way to the mouth below one of only about 0.7 ‰.

Catchment area

From a natural perspective, the 12.5 km² catchment area of the Trutenbach, with its deeper western and central parts, is part of the Crailsheim Bay sub-area of the Hohenloher and Haller Plains , the largest eastern side bay in the Keuperberge being created by the brook with its tributaries. The predominantly wooded eastern and northern edge of the catchment area, on the other hand, belongs to the Crailsheimer Hardt sub-area of the Frankenhöhe .

Behind the Crailsheimer Hardt plateau, known as the Kappelwald , borders the catchment area of the Mühlbach or Haugenbach , which drains to the Danube via Zwergwörnitz and Wörnitz , while the Trutenbach outflow reaches the Rhine via Jagst and Neckar . The eastern border is therefore part of the European main watershed between the North Sea on this side and the Black Sea on the other.

At the southeast corner at 541.9  m above sea level. The highest elevation of the catchment area in the Westgartshausener Pfarrholz is connected to the southern watershed, which mainly falls on the route of the L 2218 and close to the southern edge of Westgartshausen over the narrow spur of the Laubberg in the direction of Jagst. Beyond, the Degenbach drains at the very beginning , then for the most part the right Jagst tributary called Weidenbach , which is called the Tümpfelbach at the bottom, immediately before the Trutenbach.

After a short stretch through the Crailsheim settlement area, the right, northern watershed also runs mainly on a spur, which is called Kreckelberg in the west , then Eichwald in the middle and finally, after a noticeable rise over the Schönebürg castle stalls, broadly back to the plateau in the Kappelwald connects. The other spur side drains in the western small, which opens on the fifth Dorfer hero mill in the downward Jagst Aarbach , to the east of here yet Kühnbach called Kreuzbach , which then further down in Satteldorf enters the Jagst.

In the catchment area there is the village of Goldbach on the middle Mühlbach section, the village of Westgartshausen on the middle Hammerbach , and finally on both sides of the Trutenbach there is a large part of the eastern closed settlement area of Crailsheim , whose urban area includes the two mentioned villages as well as the entire catchment area. Around a quarter of this is forest, in the oak forest and above all in the Kappelwald on the north and east edge of the Mühlebach catchment area, in its southern continuation on the east edge of the Hammerbach catchment area, to a lesser extent on the low hill ridge Schlechtenberg between Mühlbach / Trutenbach and Hammerbach as well as on the Laubberg left above the middle Hammerbach. About a sixth is settlement area of the three places, the rest is a mixture of fields and meadows, the latter mainly in the lowlands.

The Trutenbach is 5.8 km long, of which about 3.2 km are accounted for by the upper reaches of the Mühlbach , it has a catchment area of 12.5 km².

geology

On most of the erosion bays of the Trutenbach and the Hammerbach there is Gipskeuper ( Grabfeld Formation ), which has formed a noticeable step with a flat high plateau through drawn-in and erosion-resistant dolomite layers in the middle ridge between the two large stream valleys of the water system. Not around Goldbach, but around Westgartshausen there is a strip of reed sandstone ( Stuttgart Formation ) on it, recognizable in nature by a flatter rise to the layers of the higher Mittelkeuper above it, at least up to the Kieselsandstein ( Hassberge Formation ). A little before the outskirts of Crailsheim, the Trutenbach changes into the Lettenkeuper ( Erfurt formation ) below the Gipskeuper , into which it also flows. Hammerbach and especially Trutenbach already flow in Quaternary floodplain sediment strips.

Nature and protected areas

There are many protected areas in the catchment area.

Nature reserves

  • The Hammersbachtal northeast of Westgartshausen (!) Has a moist valley floor under heather-like slopes.
  • The Wacholderberg - Geigerswasen area is a small right side bay of the Hammerbach a little below Westgartshausen with a spring swamp on the valley floor, a juniper heather created by sheep pasture and a loose tree population on the slopes up to the small high plateau of the Schlechtberg.
  • The Crailsheimer Eichwald in the western part of the Eichwald forest is a Hudewald with loosely standing beeches and large single oaks.

Landscape protection areas

Natural monuments

Water protection areas

For the water supply association Jagstgruppe , a water protection area is designated in the north and in the east of Goldbach im Kappelwald on the Crailsheimer Hardt plateau, which protrude far beyond the catchment area border. Only a narrow marginal strip of a larger one in the Satteldorf community lies on this side of the watershed on the Schönebürg – Eichwald spur.

history

City map from 1828 with the situation of the mouth at that time

Apparently the Trutenbach used to split into two estuary arms in the area of the Spitalsee. The left flowed on today's route and flowed into the lower reaches of a former right mill ditch of the Jagst, which went off at the still preserved weir above the current mouth of the stream. Today nothing can be seen of the mill and the rest of the canal above. The one on the right, on the other hand, probably as a flooded city moat, ran hard on the southern city wall almost to the west and ended not far from today's southern river bridge of the B 290, there called Goethestrasse. His ditch depression at the foot of the city wall in the area of the hospital complex can still be seen today.
