Reiner Schilling (born May 10, 1943 in Nendingen ; † October 15, 2013 ) was a German wrestler .

Career

Reiner Schilling came from a wrestling family and grew up in his native Nendingen, where he also went to school . He started wrestling at ASV Nendingen as a child . At the age of 13 he was the Württemberg schoolmaster. Three years later he qualified for the elimination tournament for the Olympic Games in Rome . Reiner celebrated his first major success in Bottrop in 1960 when he took 3rd place in the weight class up to 57 kg in the German youth championship in free style. In the juniors he was 1963 German free style champion and runner-up in the Greco-Roman style in featherweight . In 1964 he won his first DM title in free style in featherweight at the German junior championship in Nuremberg .

In 1963, Reiner achieved a great success with the seniors when he became German featherweight champion in free style, a success which he repeated in 1964. Finally Reiner Schilling was German runner-up in the Greco-Roman style in 1965, again in the featherweight division.

In 1964 Reiner Schilling succeeded in qualifying for the all-German team at the Olympic Games in Tokyo against Christian Luschnig from Jena in the free style in featherweight. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo Reiner showed a good tournament, won three fights and had to retire after the fourth round after a defeat against the eventual Olympic champion Osamu Watanabe from Japan . He took an honorable 7th place.

In other championships, Schilling was no longer at the start, as he had to end his career in 1965 due to an eye injury.

In 1971 he became a trainer and manager at SV Triberg . With four ascents, the club made it to the first division under Schilling . From 1985 to 1993 he was a coach at ASV Nendingen, then its chairman until 2010. Moreover Schilling base coach in was Schwarzwald-Baar , a founding member of the Sponsors Ringer , base, Black Forest / Alb / Bodensee and member of the Württemberg Trainerrat Ringer Association.

In 2006 Tuttlingen's Lord Mayor Michael Beck awarded him the state badge. In 2007 Schilling was awarded the DRB gold pin of honor for his excellent service in the ring sport .

Private

Reiner Schilling was married and had a son. He last lived in Mühlheim an der Donau .
