Reitzenschlag is a village and a cadastral municipality of the municipality of Litschau in the Gmünd district in Lower Austria .

history

Reitzenschlag was part of the Litschau rule for a long time.

There was a small castle in the village until the 18th century, which had emerged from a medieval manor. This appeared in Georg Matthäus Vischer's "Topographia archiducatus Austriae Inferioris modernae" from 1672, engraved in copper. This copper engraving also shows the Meierhof next to the castle. There was also a stately sheep farm there (verifiably since 1627). The noble seat, a small, two-story building surrounded by a moat, fell into disrepair in the course of the 18th century; in 1787 the castle was already an unrecognizable ruin. Nevertheless, some visible remains of the former complex have been preserved on the site of today's house No. 31, such as the remains of ramparts and moats, a large cellar and the bases of three round stone pillars.

Settlement development

Reitzenschlag with its aristocratic residence originally formed its own (knight) estate. In 1590/91 the place had 23 subservient houses; at that time the local authority was with Melchior von Hubereckh. In 1751 Reitzenschlag had 27 subordinate houses.

At the turn of the year 1979/1980 there were a total of 68 building areas with 30,333 m² and 38 gardens on 22,373 m² in the cadastral community of Reitzenschlag, in 1989/1990 there were already 104 building areas. In 1999/2000 the number of building areas had grown to 251 and in 2009/2010 there were 113 buildings on 240 building areas.

Agriculture

The cadastral community is shaped by forestry. 281 hectares were used for agriculture at the turn of the year 1979/1980 and 323 hectares were forest areas. In 1999/2000 agriculture was carried out on 254 hectares and 331 hectares were designated as areas used for forestry. At the end of 2018, 242 hectares were used as agricultural land and forestry was carried out on 338 hectares. Reitzenschlag's average soil climate is 19.9 (as of 2010).
