Hörmanns bei Litschau is a locality and under the name Hörmanns a cadastral municipality of the municipality of Litschau in the Gmünd district in Lower Austria .

history

Hörmanns was part of the Litschau rule for many centuries.

In the first half of the 18th century there was a glassworks leased by the Litschau rulership in Hörmanns. This represented a production facility for flat glass (window and mirror glass) of the first order, which not only served the regional market of the nobles and abbots building castles and monasteries, but, because it was also aimed at export, their products also to Vienna and demonstrably as far as Oberkrain negotiated into it. The glassworks, which had previously been run by the manor, was taken over by Johann Joseph Kreidl as a tenant from 1726 (and until 1741) at the latest. Under his aegis, in addition to simple assistants, several masters from South Bohemian glassworks worked in the Hörmanns factory, while other employees came from the steelworks of Lower Bavaria, the Palatinate and the Waldviertel. As a large company, the glassworks was also a major buyer of products from the manorial own businesses, such as beer from the brewery and meat from the meat bank of the Litschauer Herrschaftswirtshaus - not to mention the many tons of wood from the manorial forests. The hut was closed at the end of 1751, the buildings were removed and the area was donated with six hackers from 1757.
