Renée Knapp (* in Virginia ) is an American musical actress .

Life

She completed her training, which she completed with a “Bachelor of Music” in Music Performance, at the Ithaca College School of Music in New York . She sang her first solo roles during her studies: Lucy in Brecht / Weill's Die Dreigroschenoper and Lisetta in Joseph Haydn's comic opera Il mondo della luna . At the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera she sang in the musical Follies by Stephen Sondheim .

She made her debut in Europe with the role of Maria in Leonard Bernstein's musical West Side Story . She embodied the role as a guest in musical productions at the Staatstheater Kassel , at the Theater Dortmund (1988/89 season, as a joint production with Essen), at the Aalto Theater in Essen (1988/89 season, as a joint production with Dortmund) and at the Polish theater West Side Story premiered in Łódź . In 1990 she received the Aalto Stage Prize for Young Artists for her portrayal as Maria. In 1991 she sang Maria, at the invitation of Justus Frantz , also in honor of the late composer Leonard Bernstein at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival . In the Dutch Cats production, Renée Knapp played the roles of Griddlebone and Gumbie Cat at the Caree Theater in Amsterdam , and sang on the Cats album of the original Dutch cast. From 1990 to 1994 she was in Hamburg as Christine Daaé in Andrew Lloyd Webber's successful musical Das Phantom der Oper, the leading actress; her partners included Peter Hofmann , Tim Tobin and Hartwig Rudolz . With this role she also made guest appearances at the Princess Theater in Melbourne , alongside the Canadian musical star Donald Cant and the Australian Andy Warlow . In 1994 she appeared again at Theater Dortmund, this time as fiancée Natalie Lewis in Tony Macauly's musical Extrablatt ( Windy City ) . In 1996 and 1997 she played the role of Isabella in the musical Gaudí by Eric Woolfson in Alsdorf , and then at the Musical Dome in Cologne , staged by Elmar Ottenthal . In 1999 she played the film star Claudia Nardi in Maury Yeston's musical Nine in the German premiere at the Theater des Westens , Berlin . In 2003 she returned to the leading role of Isabella for the new production by Gaudí in Alsdorf, Düren and in the Rhein-Main-Theater in Niedernhausen .

Knapp also performed with Wolfgang Rosen under the motto literature meets songs with literary-musical programs, designed show formats, and now gives concerts as a soloist with her own program as well as in the context of duets and guest appearances.

Private

Renée Knapp has been involved with UNICEF Germany for over 20 years , u. a. in the context of benefit galas, the Cologne Child Protection Association and the Philippine aid and child protection organization PREDA Foundation . In 2011 she performed for the benefit of the children's hospice Sterntaler eV Mannheim with Donald Cant , her Canadian partner from Phantom of the Opera , in Schwetzingen Castle .
