Rengen is a district ( local district ) of Daun in the central Vulkaneifel in the Vulkaneifel district in Rhineland-Palatinate .

location

The place is built on a small ridge above the Liesertal. The Lieser flows as the III. Order from Kradenbach to Rengen. After the Hasbach flows into the Lieser in the locality, it is classified as a second order body of water.

On the northern edge of the village, the federal motorway 1 crosses the Liesertal with a striking bridge over a length of 578 meters and has changed the appearance of the village since its completion in 2008.

On the eastern edge of the town, the Green Road Eifel-Ardennen (Route Verte Ardennes-Eifel) passes the town as a bypass road , an approx. 500 km long cross-border holiday route that connects the Ardennes with the Eifel.

The Domain and Lindenhof residential areas also belong to the Rengen district .

history

Rengen was first mentioned at the beginning of the 14th century among the places of the Electorate of Trier Daun.

On November 7, 1970 Rengen was incorporated into the district town of Daun.

From 1895 to 1991 Rengen was a train station on the Eifelquerbahn ( Andernach - Gerolstein ). The route was used from 2001 to 2012, Saturdays and Sundays from May to October, in tourist traffic with historic rail buses and steam trains of the Vulkan-Eifel-Bahn .

church

The place is characterized by the Roman Catholic branch church “St. Kunibert ”in honor of St. Fourteen helpers . This early Gothic style church replaced the old chapel built in 1756, built in 1903 and 1904 and inaugurated on August 7, 1904.

Transportation

Since December 8, 2018, the Rengen district has had good connections to local public transport for the first time . The bus route 520 connects Rengen every hour (Saturday and Sunday every 2 hours) to the district town of Daun and the municipality of Kelberg (with stops in Neichen and Kradenbach and the Rengen industrial area ). In the center there is the Dorfbackes stop, which also serves as a transfer point between line 520 from / to Daun and the RufBus line 517. In addition, the surrounding communities are also connected to the local public transport system at least every 2 hours from Monday to Sunday by so-called on-call buses. Line 517 runs between Darscheid and Rengen with stops in Sarmersbach, Nerdlen and Kradenbach. In addition, there are additional trips between Dockweiler and Sarmersbach and between Daun and Kradenbach.
