Steinborn is a district ( district ) of Daun in the Vulkaneifel district in Rhineland-Palatinate .

geography

The place is located in the central volcanic Eifel in the Pützbachtal. The neighboring towns of Steinborn are Waldkönigen in the north , Neunkirchen in the south and Kirchweiler in the north-west . The L 28 state road runs through the town . In addition, the Hippersbach crosses the town and flows east of the town into the Pützborner Bach.

The Asseberghof, Jagdhaus Fackelberg and Laachmühle residential areas also belong to the Steinborn district .

history

Steinborn is mentioned for the first time in 1316. Between 1347 and 1352 the plague raged in the Steinborn area.

Until the end of the 18th century Steinborn belonged to the electorate of Trier and was under the administration and jurisdiction of the Daun office . Steinborn was the seat of a center .

In 1794 the Left Bank of the Rhine was occupied by French revolutionary troops in the First Coalition War. From 1798 to 1814 Steinborn belonged to the canton of Daun in the Saardepartement .

At the Congress of Vienna (1815) the region came to the Kingdom of Prussia , Steinborn was assigned to the newly established Daun district in the Trier administrative district in 1816 and administered by the Daun mayor .

In 1840 the village got its own school.

After the Second World War , the Steinborn community within the French occupation zone became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

On November 7, 1970, the previously independent community of Steinborn, which had 286 inhabitants at that time, was incorporated into the town of Daun.

In the village there is the Catholic branch church St. Lambertus . It dominates the landscape of Steinborn. The oldest parts of the structure date from the 13th century.
