Waldkönigen is a district ( local district ) of Daun in the central Vulkaneifel in the Vulkaneifel district in Rhineland-Palatinate .

location

The place is in the Pützbachtal. The neighboring towns of Waldkönigen are Dockweiler in the north, Rengen in the east, Steinborn in the south and Hinterweiler in the west . The K 35 runs through the village and the B 421 runs directly on the eastern edge of the village. The Pützborner Bach also crosses the village.

history

Waldkönigen is mentioned for the first time in 1368.

Until the end of the 18th century, Waldkönigen belonged to the imperial rule of Winneburg and Beilstein , which was last owned by the Counts of Metternich . Ecclesiastically, Waldkönigen belonged to the Archdiocese of Cologne .

In 1794 the Left Bank of the Rhine was occupied by French revolutionary troops in the First Coalition War. From 1798 to 1814 Waldkönigen belonged to the canton of Daun in the Saardepartement .

At the Congress of Vienna (1815) the region came to the Kingdom of Prussia , Waldkönigen was assigned to the newly established Daun district in the Trier administrative district in 1816 and administered by the Dockweiler mayor .

After the Second World War , the municipality of Waldkönigen within the French occupation zone became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

On November 7, 1970, the previously independent community of Waldkönigen, with a population of 384 at that time, was incorporated into the town of Daun.

The Catholic branch church of St. Luzia is located in the village . It was built from rubble stones in 1871. It replaces an older church.
