UN Security Council resolution 1695

The United Nations Security Council Resolution 1695 has been prepared by the July 15, 2006 the UN Security Council adopted at its 5490th meeting, unanimously and prohibits the sale of material to North Korea , which would increase the ability of this country, its development program for ballistic missiles continue. The resolution also condemns the missile test launch carried out by North Korea on July 5, 2006.

The text of the resolution is a compromise between the United States , Japan and France , who favored a stricter position, and the People's Republic of China and Russia , who wanted a less stringent formulation. At the request of China and Russia, the resolution does not refer to Article VII of the Charter of the United Nations . The resolution, introduced by the United States and Japan, was almost instantly rejected by North Korea.
