The Resolution 1705 of the UN Security Council is a resolution to the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda that the United Nations Security Council has adopted unanimously at its 5518th meeting on August 29 of 2006.

The resolution extended the term of office of the Ugandan judge Solomy Balungi Bossa ad litem until the Butare case was closed. The President had determined that the trial is likely to continue beyond Judge Bossa's scheduled end of term on June 24, 2007. The decision overrides Article 12 ter of the Statutes of the International Tribunal for Rwanda and allows Bossa to exceed the term of office for which she was appointed.

The measure was proposed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations . (The Security Council, in its later resolution 1717 , decided to extend the term of office of eleven additional judges.)
