The Resolution 1714 of the UN Security Council is a resolution to the conflict in Darfur in western Sudan , which the United Nations Security Council adopted unanimously at its 5545th meeting on 6 October of 2006.

The Security Council relied on its previous resolutions on the situation in Sudan, in particular resolutions 1590 , 1627 , 1653 , 1663 , 1679 , 1706 and 1709 .

Resolution 1714 calls on the parties to the Naivasha Agreement , a comprehensive peace agreement for southern Sudan dated January 9, 2005, to comply with their respective obligations and particularly criticizes the obstruction of United Nations employees by the Sudanese government, especially in the southern Abyei district , as well as the violation of the peace agreement.

The resolution also extends the mandate of the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) until April 30, 2007, with subsequent extensions being intended.

The resolution text also welcomes the decision of the African Union of September 20, 2006 to extend the mandate of the African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS) to December 31, 2006 and encourages cooperation between UNMIS and AMIS.
