With the Resolution 1712 of the UN Security Council 's mandate was the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) extended by six months to 31 March of 2007. Under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations , the mandate of UNFIL was extended until March 31, 2007 and the Secretary-General was authorized to distribute troops between UNMIL and the Opération des Nations Unies en Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) under resolution 1609 as required regroup.
