The Wullenwever restaurant is a restaurant in the Hanseatic city of Lübeck (Schleswig-Holstein). It is located in a listed building in the Beckergrube of the Marien-Magdalenen-Quarter in Lübeck's old town , an area of ​​the UNESCO World Heritage .

The Hamburg-born chef Roy Petermann opened the restaurant in 1990 in a historic town house. Until 2006, when two hotel restaurants in Lübeck's Travemünde district received awards, it was the only restaurant in the city of Lübeck to have a Michelin Guide star.

The restaurant is named after the mayor of Lübeck, Jürgen Wullenwever, who was executed in 1537 . It belongs to the Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs , which it counts as one of the “top hotels on the beautiful Baltic coast”. The restaurant has a working inner courtyard . Petermann's wife Manuela is responsible for the service.

The restaurant trains chefs and restaurant professionals who take top places in competitions.

Well-known guests of the restaurant were also the then Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schröder and Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer during a state visit by French President Jacques Chirac in 2004 .

Awards

In addition to the Michelin star, the restaurant has been awarded 17 points in Gault-Millau and three points in Feinschmecker . The Varta guide awarded him three diamonds. The Schlemmer Atlas awarded three wooden spoons and the business magazine Capital lists it among the hundred best restaurants in Germany.

The multi-storey building where the restaurant is located, is a Luebeck town house with a Renaissance - stepped gable . The property with today's address Beckergrube 71 was first mentioned in 1298 as being built on. In 1305 it was a bakery; in the 16th century it was used as a brewery . It burned down in 1793, was rebuilt and used as a joinery. During the reconstruction, the arrangement of the windows on the upper floors was changed. In 1876 the house was rebuilt. In particular, the facade and the interior staircase of the hall with preserved stair posts from the 18th century are under monument protection . The posts are decorated with ornaments .
