Richard Stephen Seminack (born March 3, 1942 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † August 16, 2016 in Hoffman Estates , Illinois ) was the eparch of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic eparchy Saint Nicolas of Chicago .

Life

Richard Stephen Seminack was born in Philadelphia in 1942 . His ancestors come from Ukraine . As the oldest child of a total of seven in the Seminack family, he attended the St. Martin of Tours Catholic Elementary School in his hometown , which is run by the Joseph Sisters . Also in Philadelphia is the Secondary Catholic School Father Judge Catholic High School . His vocation to the priestly ministry was made concrete in the theological preparatory seminar at St. Basil Seminary Preparatory High School. This Greek Catholic high school is subordinate to the Stamford Eparchy of Ukraine .

In 1963 Seminack continued his theological studies at the Catholic University of America . His major became canon law . On May 25, 1967, at the age of twenty-five, Richard Stephen Seminack was ordained a priest of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in his hometown . His first pastoral service was in the Parish of St. Josaphat in the Philadelphia Archeparchy . The eparchy sent Seminack to the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome for further studies . In June 1968 Seminack completed his studies in the field of Eastern Church Law .

Upon his return to the United States, he served in the parishes of Chester , Landsdale , Warrington , Miami, and Parma . Seminack was also a religion teacher at St. Basil Academy and a chaplain at Manor College in Jenkintown . Administrator of the Mission from the Sacred Heart in Fox Chase and Plenipotentiary Lieutenant in the United States Navy Chaplain Corps . On June 8, 1984, Seminack took over the parish of the Holy Trinity in Carnegie . Richard Stephen Seminack was awarded the honorary title of Papal Honorary Chaplain ( Monsignor ) by Pope John Paul II on October 5, 1984 for his work .

On March 25, 2003, Seminack was named a sparrow of Chicago. He was ordained episcopate on June 4, 2003 by the Major Archbishop of Lviv , Lyubomyr Cardinal Husar . Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Philadelphia, Stephen Soroka , and the Bishop of Saint Josaphat in Parma , Robert Mikhail Moskal .
