The Town of Richland is located in southwest Wisconsin and flows through the Pine River , a right tributary of the Wisconsin River which flows into the Mississippi . The Iowa border is 40 miles west. After Minnesota is located some 85 km north-north-west; to Illinois it is about 105 km to the south.
The geographical coordinates of the center of the Town of Richland are 43 ° 20'56 "north latitude and 90 ° 22'43" west longitude. It extends over an area of 81.6 km². The Town of Richland completely encloses the city of Richland Center without it being part of the town.

US Highway 14 runs through the town in a northwest-southeast direction . In addition, the Wisconsin State Highways 56 and 80 and the County Highways A, Q and Y run through the area of the Town of Richland. All other roads are subordinate country roads and some unpaved roads.
With the Richland Airport is located just across the southeastern border of the Town, a small airfield. The nearest commercial airports are Dubuque Regional Airport in Iowa (around 125 km south-southwest), La Crosse Regional Airport (around 115 km northwest) and Dane County Regional Airport in Wisconsin's capital Madison (around 105 km east).
