The Town of Buena Vista is located in southwest Wisconsin, at the confluence of the Pine River in the Wisconsin River , a left tributary of the Mississippi . The Iowa border is 50 miles west. After Minnesota is 100 km north-north-west; to Illinois it is about 100 km to the south.

US Highway 14 runs through the town in a northwest-southeast direction . The Wisconsin State Highway 131 runs in a north-south direction through the east of the Town of Buena Vista. In addition, County Highway B runs in a west-east direction through the north of the town. All other roads are subordinate country roads and some unpaved roads.
With Richland Airport there is a small airfield in the northwest of the town.
