The Riedbach is a brook in the municipality of Obersontheim in the district of Schwäbisch Hall in north-eastern Baden-Württemberg, with its longer upper course Brückbach over 3 km in length, which flows into the Bühler from the left and north-west in the Untersontheim suburb .

geography

Brückbach

The Brückbach arises next to the K 2619 from Oberfischach in the Fischach valley to Hausen at the end of the field path to the Häuserberg at about 405  m above sea level. NHN . Again and again lined with small reed beds , it runs to the right of the road to the valley and then grazes the southern edge of the soft patch of Hausen. In a fairly wide and flat floodplain, it crosses under the L 1060 and after another 0.4 km, now accompanied by bushes on the bank and meandering, it merges with the noticeably weaker Tatzenbach to the Riedbach .

course

The Riedbach flows in the same way to the east next to the county road towards Untersontheim. The Ernsbach flows into it from the southwest. The Dorg Untersontheim is mostly to the left of the brook. Immediately after it has passed it, the Rossbach flows from the left and west-northwest , which is almost a kilometer longer than Brückbach and Riedbach combined, but does not clearly show any larger water flow. A hundred meters further, the Riedbach flows out at around 360.6  m above sea level. NHN from the left and north-west into the Bühler here at the Untersontheimer sports field in a very wide and flat floodplain, turning north-east .

The Riedbach is 3.3 km long together with the Brückbach and flows about 44 meters below the Brückbach origin, the mean bottom slope of this entire line is about 13 ‰.

Catchment area

The Riedbach has a catchment area of 7.6 km², which naturally belongs to the Vellberger Bay sub- area of the Hohenlohe and Haller Plains and borders on the western edge of the Fischach Bay sub-area and edge heights of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains . At the north-west corner on the mountain near Oberfischach lies above the source area of the large underflow tributary Rossbach at approx. 473  m above sea level. NHN highest point. Its longest extension from there to the mouth east-southeast of it measures over 4 km, across it it is less than 2.5 km everywhere. In the north the watershed runs from the mountain over the forest spur of the Sandrain to the west, then in a small arc to the southeast to the Ummenhofen water tower; competes on this route beyond the Vellberg - Eschenauer Steinbach . Then the watershed soon reaches the estuary in a further south-eastward course. From there, the catchment border runs southwest over the Untersontheimer Hagenrain to the Obersontheimer Gaukler , then west-southwest over the forest spur of the Hitzberg to the Häuserberg ( 449  m above sea level ). From the juggler on , the Schießbach competes here in the south . The last part of the watershed from the Häuserberg via Röschbühl to the northwest back up the mountain also separates the larger catchment areas of the Bühler and the very close Fischach , which experiences only an insignificant inflow from the dividing line , which is often on a flat plateau.

Tributaries

Confluence of the Riedbach at about 370  m above sea level. NHN approx. 0.4 km east of the outskirts of Obersontheim - Hausen in den Riedwiesen . The Riednach flows roughly eastwards.

  • Brückbach , right and west-southwest main line upper course, 1.8 km and approx. 2.6 km². Arises at about 405  m above sea level. NHN to the right of the K 2619 Oberfischach -Hausen at the junction of the field path on the Häuserberg.
    • (Inflow from the northern slope of the Häuserberg ), from the right to around 388  m above sea level. NHN , about 0.7 km. Arises at about 430  m above sea level. NHN . Longer than the official source branch, but mostly dry. Long flowing in a forest blade .
    • Saubach , from the left a little afterwards to 387.4  m above sea level. NHN , approx. 0.5 km. Arises on a hedge of the dirt road going towards Steinig at about 453  m above sea level. NHN .
    • (Inflow from the valley between Himmelreich and Dachsbau ), from the left to the first houses of Hausen at about 381  m above sea level. NHN , at least 0.5 km. According to the map, made on the western edge of Hausen; However, aerial photos at LUBW suggest a longer upper course.
    • RiverIcon-SmallLake.svg Drains three ponds to the right of the run, a total of 0.1 ha.
    • Under a small bridge, crosses the Weidenstrasse (old state road) leading south from Hausen and then the new L 1060 and is then called Riedbach .
  • Tatzenbach , left and west-northwest side branch upper course, approx. 1.5 km and approx. 0.7 km. Arises at about 405  m above sea level. NHN in a meadow in the lake pond in front of a small forest blade.
  • Ernsbach , from the right at the beginning of the Riedwiesen to about 369  m above sea level. NHN , approx. 1.6 km. Arises at the northern foot and edge of the forest of the Hitzberg, still west of the gypsum works at at least 396  m above sea level. NHN .
  • Rossbach , from the left and northwest in the beginning Bühleraue at about 362  m above sea level. NHN , 4.1 km. Arises in a forest valley under the western Zangholz at about 429  m above sea level. NHN . Is almost a kilometer longer than the Riedbach at the confluence, with no noticeably higher water flow.

Mouth of the Riedbach at Untersontheimer sports field at 360.6  m above sea level. NHN from the left and northwest into the Bühler . The brook, with its longer upper course, Brückbach, is 3.3 km long, and 1.5 km long from its confluence with the Tatzenbach on the Namenlkauf , and has a catchment area of 7.6 km².

Localities

At the run with their affiliations. Only the names of the lowest nesting level denote neighboring settlements:

The catchment area also includes:

  • between Brückbach and Tatzenbach is the hamlet of Siehdichfür, which is growing together with Hausen
  • The hamlet of Ummenhofen, which has grown together with Untersontheim, is predominantly on the slope to the left of the Rossbach
  • on the ridge line between Rossbach and Riedbach two Aussiedlerhöfe as well
  • the north-western part of the new building areas connected with Obersontheim but partly belonging to Untersontheim on the Hagenrain (around the Ringstrasse) and in the Gaukler .

The Riedbach (including the Brückbach-Oberlaufs) runs along its entire length in the suburb of Untersontheim of the Obersontheim municipality , to which the vast majority of the catchment area also belongs. Very small parts of the area on its edges to the southeast and northwest are in other Obersontheim subdistricts and to the north in the area of the small town of Vellberg .

Landscape image

On the south-western edge of the catchment area, on the rise to the edge heights towards the Fischachtal, there are usually forests that also cover part of the leveling areas of the Corbula Bank and Estheria layers. The plateaus on the Hausberg and the Berg are mostly arable land. The central and eastern catchment area, on the other hand, is completely unforested; here there are mostly meadows in the often flat floodplains, which also often cover hillsides south of the Riedbachlauf, while to the north of it, especially west of Ummenhofen, on both sides of the edge hills of the Rossbach, the arable land largely dominates.

geology

The course of the Riedbach and all of the tributaries mentioned in the section on the course begins in the Gipskeuper ( Grabfeld formation ) below the Corbulabank, which is extensively extending on the western edge of the catchment area. Near the route of the L 1060, Riedbach and Ernsbach then reach the Lettenkeuper ( Erfurt formation ), the steeper Rossbach in the middle reaches only at the foot of the slope below Ummenhofen, in which the Riedbach then also flows. Soon after their formation, the streams often run in very wide strips of valley filling.

Above the above-mentioned Corbula Bank, on the Hausberg in the southwest and on the mountain in the northwest, there are small plateaus in the reed sandstone ( Stuttgart formation ), lined with noticeable stripes in the layers of estheria of the upper gypsum keuper. A little west of the route of the L 1060 there are remains of old gypsum quarries in Hausener Wacholder and on the eastern tip of Obersontheimer Hitzberg at the Gipshütte residential area (!). Further west on the upper Ernsbach, towards the end of the 20th century, a tunnel for gypsum mining was opened under the Hitzberg , but it was shut down at least in 2012.

The course of Brückbach and Riedbach follows the basin line of the extensive Neckar-Jagst furrow , which extends approximately east-northeast , and which is morphologically shaped as a depression in the strikingly wide valley.
