The Rossbach is a 4 km long brook in the area of the municipality of Obersontheim in the district of Schwäbisch Hall in north-eastern Baden-Württemberg , which flows into the Riedbach from the left and north-west in the suburb of Untersontheim , which flows into the Bühler immediately afterwards .

geography

course

The Rossbach arises about 2 km west-northwest of the suburb of Hausen in a forest valley below the western Zangholz at just 430  m above sea level. NHN . From here it runs eastwards next to a forest path and after about 700 m it reaches the field boundary. A little further on, at a point of this, he leaves the forest completely behind him and from now on accompanies a field path that begins there. After about 1.1 km from the source, at a slender triangle of coppices, his unsteady, about the same length right upper course runs towards him from the right, which arises only about 300 m south of himself and at a similar altitude in a parallel forest valley below the western winter dump. Although this spring branch does not always carry water, the mouth triangle is overgrown with herbs and seems permanently moist. About 2 km below the source, a short stream from the Hart runs from the left . Up to this point, the Rossbach has dug a rather flat and wide hollow.

Then it crosses under the Bühlertalstraße (L 1060) and now runs east-south-east into the soon deeper valley, accompanied by alder trees and a strip of grassland on the narrow valley floor, over which fields stretch widely on both hill slopes. So it flows between the suburb Ummenhofen on the left and two Aussiedlerhöfe on the right opposite hill and reaches Untersontheim. There it passes under the K 2620 Ummenhofen – Obersontheim and the K 2619 Oberfischach– ( Vellberg -) Merkelbach in an otherwise open course shortly after one another . After the last road crossing, it has reached the Bühler floodplain, which is very wide near Untersontheim, and bends in a ditch to the south-southeast. After less than two hundred meters along the eastern edge of the village, it flows from the left after a run of 4.1 km in length and at about 362  m above sea level. NHN in the Riedbach , which is about a kilometer shorter here. About a hundred meters further on, the combined stream flows from the left and northwest at a sharp turn in the Bühler, which is here, which is quite meandering .

Aubach

On some maps, in continuation of the east-south-east course of the Rossbach, a little after its bend behind the second road underpass in Untersontheim, an Aubach is drawn in the wide left Bühleraue, which continues in a winding course eastwards and about 0.6 km further down into a switchback of the Bühler . In nature, from this - perhaps silted up or filled up - body of water in the left Bühleraue on the mostly publicly visible part of the route, only a short, damp ditch to a grassy field path through the floodplain and a not very deep, sometimes damp and Reed-covered railing channel that begins shortly before the specified mouth. Longer-reaching piping is at least not visible and appears unlikely because of the turns of the route shown.

Catchment area

The Rossbach has a catchment area of around 2.6 km². Its westernmost part, with the headwaters in the forest up to the corridor boundary, naturally belongs to the sub-area Fischachbucht and the edge heights of the Swabian-Franconian forest mountains , the majority east of it in its entirety to the sub-area Vellberger Bucht of the Hohenloher and Haller level .

The highest point in the catchment area is at its northwestern tip on the summit plateau of the unwooded, about 473  m above sea level. NHN high mountain northeast of Herlebach. From here the northern watershed runs eastwards through Hohenrot to Bergsporn Sandrain , descends there and then runs on a still quite distinctive ridge to Ummenhofen. There it turns to the southeast and, last of all, runs south through the eastern Untersontheim to the mouth. On the section up to a little before Ummenhofen, beyond the Steinbach , which flows into the Bühler in the Vellberg- Eschenauer Taubenloch, competes , then the Bühler itself.

From the mouth, the southern watershed between the cemetery and the old school runs west-northwest to the ridge and over the two Ummenhofen emigrant farms on its ridge to the L 1060. Beyond this road, it runs less pronounced to the west, then to the forest spur between winter heap inside and badger burrow in South outside to the Haubühl . On the other side of the border, the Riedbach, which absorbs the Rossbach, collects the runoff, partly via its left tributary Tatzenbach , further to the west under the name Brückbach .

The Fischach competes behind the western watershed . This side of the catchment area boundary runs inconspicuously on a flat forest plateau until the abrupt ascent to the mountain .

With the exception of tiny gussets on its northern edge on the ridge above the Zangholz , which are to the small town of Vellberg , the catchment area is in the district of Obersontheim . Except in the far west in the headwaters, where the existence of the right branch reverses these conditions, the stream mostly runs closer to the southern watershed, which is often noticeably deeper.

Tributaries and lakes

Origin of the Rossbach at about 429  m above sea level. NHN in Waldgewann Mittlerer Gehrn near the forest path from Haubühl to Sandrain . The stream initially flows approximately eastwards.

  • (Waldbach), from the right and west-southwest to about 403.2  m above sea level. NHN at a small swamp at Feldgewann Rot , approx. 1.1 km and approx. 0.3 km². Arises at about 422  m above sea level. NHN under the western winter heap .
The Rossbach itself up to this tributary is approx. 1.2 km long and has a catchment area of approx. 0.8 km².
  • (Flurbach im Gewann Hart ), from the left and northwest to about 397  m above sea level. NHN on a small wetland signposted as a natural monument about 250 meters west of the L 1060, about 0.5 km and about 0.2 km². Arises at about 408  m above sea level. NHN on the dirt road from Sandrain to the junction of the K 2620 from the L 1060.
  • RiverIcon-SmallLake.svgAbout 100 meters after crossing under the L 1060 in the Pfingstwiesen pass a pond to the left of the run at about 394.1  m above sea level. Below 0.1 hectare asl.
Approximately here the Rossbach changes from east-south-east to south-east.
  • RiverIcon-SmallLake.svgJust a few steps before crossing under the K 2620 in Untersontheim, pass a former extinguishing water pond at about 368  m above sea level. NHN , well below 0.1 ha
  • (Aubach), arises about 50 meters east of the Rossbach-Laufknick to the south after crossing under the K 2619 in Untersontheim at about 363  m above sea level. NHN , 0.6 km and less than 0.1 km², flows into the Bühler below the Rossbach receiving water Riedbach.
    Possibly an old estuary.

The mouth of the Rossbach from the left and, last but not least, north at 362  m above sea level. NHN at the beginning of a field path in the Auwiesen on the eastern outskirts of Untersontheim in the Riedbach , which itself flows less than 150 meters further into the Bühler . The Rossbach is 4.1 km long and has a catchment area of approx. 2.6X km².

Localities

Places close to the run with their affiliations. Only the names of the lowest nesting level denote neighboring settlements.

Apart from these places and settlement areas, there are no other places in the catchment area.

geology

Both source branches of the Rossbach arise in the Gipskeuper ( Grabfeld Formation ), from which the stream first changes between Ummenhofen and the opposite Aussiedlerhöfe in the Lettenkeuper ( Erfurt Formation ), into which it then also flows. At the western edge of the catchment area there is a leveling area in the corbula layer above the springs in the upper gypsum keuper, and sometimes there are also layers of estheria in the gypsum keuper. In the highest part of the catchment area, on the Herlebacher Berg and on its Ostsporn Hohenrot , there is still a reed sandstone level ( Stuttgart formation ) on this layer .

Protected areas

At the tributary of the short stream from the Hart is a wetland natural monument. The corridor of the mountain , which is open to the Fischachtal, and the plateau adjoining it to the south under a stepped terrain belong to the nature reserve Fischachtal with side valleys and adjacent areas between Herlebach and Kottspiel . Protected biotopes in the catchment area are the two wetlands at the confluence of the source branches and at the inlet of the stream through the Hart ; Hedges at the forest exit of the right source branch and after crossing under the Bühlertalstrasse immediately left in the Waltenäckern ; an old ravine next to the newer dirt road from the hamlet of Siehdichfür to Sandrain ; a still used one at the northern exit of Ummenhofen at the water tower.
