The small village Mäetaguse ( Estonian Mäetaguse küla ) is located in the rural municipality of Alutaguse (until 2017 Mäetaguse ) in the Ida-Viru district ( East Wierland ) in northeast Estonia .

The village has 51 inhabitants (as of 2006)

Treasure trove from Mäetaguse

In 1908 a treasure was found in the fields of the Kubja homestead belonging to Mäetaguse. It comprised numerous objects made of bronze and silver, as well as three German and one English coins from the 12th / 13th centuries. Century. The treasure must have been buried by the beginning of the 14th century at the latest. The silver objects are now in the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg .
