location

Rietz is located about 7 kilometers southeast of Brandenburg an der Havel and just under 10 kilometers northwest of Lehnin . To the east of the village lies the Rietzer See, it has an average depth of 80 centimeters and is partially silted up by reeds. There are flat moors around the lake. The Emster Canal runs through the lake . Today the lake is a nature reserve and an important resting place for birds. South of Rietz is the Holzberg (height 43.4 meters) and the Rietz Mountains. According to a legend, these mountains are said to have been piled up by a giant daughter and thus protect them from people.

history

Rietz in the Hochstift Brandenburg

The lake Retitz was mentioned as early as 1273, the village was first mentioned as Rediz in 1335. The village was called Ritz in 1378 and Rietz since 1540. The origin of the name is unknown. Until 1571, probably from 1335, Rietz was in the bishopric of Brandenburg , the imperial principality of the bishop of the diocese of Brandenburg and was de jure not part of the Mark Brandenburg , then until 1820 in the Ziesar office. From 1821 to 1872 it was part of the Lehnin office. The village burned down in 1838 and was generously rebuilt. After that, it was part of the office of pain. In 1952 Rietz was part of the Brandenburg-Land district , and in 1992 came to the Potsdam-Mittelmark district . The village has belonged to the Lehnin district since 1991 , and has been a part of the Lehnin monastery since 2002 .

The village was not destroyed in the Thirty Years War , the number of Hüfner and Kössät remained constant. Around 1801 there were also 16 boatmen living here. These boatmen held a boatmen's festival every year. Peat was temporarily extracted on the south bank. The brickworks in the Rietzer Feldmark was built from 1862 to 1865 and was only in operation for a short time. In 1953 an LPG was founded.

On April 1, 2002, Rietz was incorporated into the municipality of Kloster Lehnin, previously the place was an independent municipality.

The place

Rietz is a street village. After the fire in 1838, the village was expanded and four-sided courtyards were created. In the second half of the 19th century the village enlarged in a radial shape. From the houses immediately after the fire in 1838, no houses have survived. Examples of buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries can still be found in the village.

The village church was built in the late 18th century, the substructure goes back to a building from the 15th century. So it is probably the oldest building in the village. It is a hall building with plastered structure, an east choir and a retracted west tower. There are three windows on each of the long sides. The interior was redesigned from 1956 to 1957. The baroque pulpit altar was removed, as well as the eastern gallery and the sacristy under the gallery. The interior of the church was thus enlarged. A winter church was set up under the western gallery. The altar is a simple table. The candlesticks on the altar are an imitation in the baroque style. The baptism was also created in 1956/1957, the baptismal bowl was donated in 1700. The organ was made by Carl Eduard Gesell from Potsdam from 1887 to 1888 . There is also an image of St. Peter from the 18th century in the church. The bells were cast in 1918.
