Rita Louise Crockett (born November 2, 1957 in San Antonio , Texas ) is a former American volleyball and beach volleyball player .

Career

Crockett played volleyball with the Houston Cougars in the 1970s . Since 1978, the outside attacker was used in the US national team. Because of the US boycott, Crockett could not take part in the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow . In 1982 she was with the national team third at the World Cup in Peru and in 1983 second at the Pan American Games in Caracas . In 1984 Crockett ("The Rocket") won the silver medal with the US team at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles .

From 1982 to 1998 Crockett played for various clubs around the world. From 1982 to 1986 she was active in Japan with Daiei Kobe , where she became Japanese champion in 1986. In 1987 and 1988 she played in the professional US major league for Long Beach State University . Then she went to Italy, first to Pescopagano Matera and from 1991 to Unibit and Fincres Rome , where she won the CEV Cup in 1993 . She then spent five years with RTV 1879 Basel , with whom she was Swiss champion twice and the Swiss Cup three times.

At the same time, Crockett played professionally beach volleyball on the national WPVA series from 1989 to 1994 and was successful here with various partners. With Jackie Silva she won the unofficial world championship in 1989 and became vice world champion in 1990 with Angela Rock .

After her playing days, Crockett was a volleyball trainer. a. at the FIU Panthers in Florida.

In 2011, Crockett was inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame .
