Robert Dominick "Rob" O'Gara (born July 6, 1993 in Nesconset , New York ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Springfield Thunderbirds from the American Hockey League since December 2019 and holds the position of Defender plays.

Career

O'Gara played for various teams on Long Island as a teenager before joining the Milton Academy high school ice hockey team for two years in 2010 . After graduating from high school, during which he was selected in the fifth round in the fifth round of the Boston Bruins from the National Hockey League in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft , the defender moved to the prestigious Yale University . There he ran parallel to his studies for the ice hockey program of the university in the ECAC Hockey , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . With this he won the national championship in his freshman year, which was also the first in the history of the university. In the following three years O'Gara developed into one of the most defensive defensive players in the entire NCAA and was given numerous appointments to various selection teams in the ECAC Hockey and Ivy League .

As a result, at the end of March 2016 he was given a three-year NHL entry contract by the Boston Bruins and from then on he worked for Boston's farm team , the Providence Bruins , in the American Hockey League (AHL). For this O'Gara completed five games at the end of the 2015/16 season in which he scored a goal. By performing well in the pre-season training camp, he earned a place in the Boston Bruins squad at the beginning of the 2016/17 season and made his debut there in Boston's first game. After three NHL appearances, the defender returned to the AHL for the time being.

After about two years in the organization of the Bruins, O'Gara was handed over to the New York Rangers in February 2018, including a third-round vote for the 2018 NHL Entry Draft , who in return sent Nick Holden to Boston. There he ended the season, but from the 2018/19 season he was only used at the Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL, so that his contract, which was about to expire, was not extended in the summer of 2019. He subsequently joined the San Antonio Rampage in August 2019 , where he signed a contract limited to the AHL. The defensive player stayed with the Rampage until the beginning of December 2019, before he was transferred to league rivals Springfield Thunderbirds .
