Robert Freund (born January 21, 1981 in St. Johann in Tirol ) is an Austrian visual artist .

Life

After completing his Matura and the advanced course in arts and crafts and object design at the Kramsach Glass School, Robert Freund studied figurative painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna , initially in the master class of Hubert Schmalix and Peter Dressler , and later with Schmalix's successor Amelie von Wulffen and Peter Dressler . Since graduating in 2007 he has been working as a freelance visual artist in Vienna and Tyrol and is also a teacher for glass painting, drafting and design at the Kramsach Glass School.

Works

Robert Freund's professional focus is on representational painting . Subject- related excursions lead to techniques of graphics and installation or assemblage of self-produced ceramic and glass objects. In his imagery he uses complex allegories and narratives - sometimes comic- like - garish fragments, then again soft, gloomy echoes of various art historical and craft references, but always as thought-provoking complex, conceptual syntheses of various influences from art and cultural studies. The artist says: "Retrospective, introspective, foresight and confrontation are terms that have meaning for me and are important to me."

In the reception area, Robert Freund's works were also placed in the vicinity of the New Leipzig School due to his narrative approach to painting . This is perhaps best reflected in a picture commentary on Robert Freund's cycle Triebwerksschaden , in which one of the works is titled as "a kind of neo-smoke on LSD". Freund Werk shows references from art history, pop and subculture , outsider art , handicrafts , lowbrow .
