Robert Hazard (born September 12, 1702 in South Kingstown , Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations , † 1751 ibid) was a Deputy Governor of the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.

Career

Robert Hazard, son of Stephen Hazard, was born in Washington County during colonial times . His grandfather was Robert Hazard from Portsmouth ( Newport County ) and his great-grandfather Thomas Hazard , who of Boston ( Massachusetts dragged) from Portsmouth. Nothing is known about his youth. Hazard became Freeman in South Kingstown in 1722 . In 1734 he got a job as a deputy in the Rhode Island's General Assembly - a position he held until 1749. Hazard was elected lieutenant governor in 1750. He died in 1751 before the end of his one-year term.

Hazard lived in Point Judith , on the southern tip of South Kingstown, on land that he had inherited from his father. He married Esther Stanton, daughter of Esther Gallup and Joseph Stanton. The couple had nine children: Joseph, Elizabeth, Esther, Stephen, Robert, Samuel, Hannah, Joshua, and Stanton. His son Joseph married Hannah Nichols, daughter of Lieutenant Governor Jonathan Nichols . Hazard was a first cousin of George Hazard , a former lieutenant governor of the colony.
