Robert Herzog (born February 17, 1823 in Schönwalde , Frankenstein district , province of Silesia , † December 26, 1886 in Breslau ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and from 1882 to 1886 Prince-Bishop in the Archdiocese of Breslau .

Career

Robert Herzog studied Catholic theology at the University of Breslau and was ordained a priest in 1848 . After years of chaplaincy in Brzeg and Berlin, he became curate and then administrator of the parish of St. Adalbert in Breslau in 1857 and pastor and archpriest in Brzeg in 1863 . In 1870 he was appointed prince-bishop delegate for Brandenburg and Pomerania and provost of St. Hedwig in Berlin.

Prince-Bishop of Wroclaw

With the consent of the Prussian state government, Pope Leo XIII appointed him . on March 30, 1882 as Bishop of Breslau. He received his episcopal ordination on May 21 of the same year from Bishop Philipp Krementz of Warmia ; Co- consecrators were Franz Adolf Namszanowski , military bishop for the German Reich, and Hermann Gleich , auxiliary bishop in Breslau.

Because of his moderate disposition, Robert Herzog enjoyed the trust of the Prussian government. Nevertheless, he supported the ultramontane demands regarding mixed marriages and state pastors.

He could not develop his potential for long. In July 1886 he donated the Robertus-Stift by Beuthen . A few months later he died and was buried in the Breslau Cathedral .
