action

England in the 13th century. After the parents of young Robert Huntington are mysteriously killed, he is evicted from his castle on behalf of Lord Alwine. Robert then flees to the nearby Sherwood Forest with his cousin Will and his two cousins Winnifred and Barbara. There they meet Little John, Mutch and their Sherwood gang. Soon after, they meet the noblewoman Marian Lancaster. She is said to be forcibly adopted by Bishop Herford, one of Alwine's accomplices, so that he could get possession of her golden cross. With the help of the cross, Lord Alwine wants to find the hidden treasure in Sherwood Forest. But Robin and his friends want to prevent this at all costs.

Characters

  • Robert Huntington: Robin is the son of George and Mary Huntington. After the mysterious death of his parents and the burning down of his castle, he and his cousin and two cousins flee from Lord Alwine's soldiers in the Sherwood Forest. Since then, he has been on the side of the weak and poor and combats Lord Alwine's nasty machinations with the help of a magical bow that he inherited from his father. Robin attaches great importance to justice and deliberately steals only once and then distributes his booty to the poor.
  • Marian Lancaster: Marian belongs to the noble family of Lancasters. Her most valuable possession is her family coat of arms in the form of a golden cross, which she wears around her neck. Marian is to be adopted by Bishop Herford so that he can consolidate his power. In the course of history she developed supernatural abilities due to her enormous hatred of Lord Alwine and the magical powers of her cross.
  • Will: Will is Robin's cousin and the big brother of Winnifred and Barbara. Despite his fearful nature, he always supports Robin in battle.
  • Winnifred: Winnifred is the sister of Will and Barbara. She devotedly takes care of her little sister and the "household".
  • Barbara: Barbara is the youngest in the group and, due to the great age difference, often feels excluded and lonely.
  • Lord Alwine: He is the governor of Nottingham and known for his cruelty. There has been a conflict between him and the Huntington family that has lasted for years, to which Robin's parents also fell victim. Lord Alwine is mainly driven by his lust for power. With the help of Marian's golden cross, he tries to get the legendary treasure in Sherwood Forest and thus to become the richest and most powerful man in England.
  • Bishop Herford: Herford is the country's bishop and supports Alwine in his plans. By adopting Marians, he wants to get hold of the Lancasters and thus expand his sphere of influence.
  • Brother Tuck: Brother Tuck is a wise monk and an old friend of the Huntington family. He lives alone in Sherwood Forest and is constantly working on new inventions to enable him to fly. Robin often asks him for advice when it comes to difficult decisions.
  • Little John: Little John is the leader of the band of robbers from Sherwood Forest and a good friend of Robin's. However, because of John's predatory activities, the two often quarrel.
  • Mutch: Mutch is Little John's "right hand man" and often has to suffer from his boss' bad mood.
  • Knight Gilbert: Gilbert is the leader of the "Knights of the Black Rose". He is in the service of Lord Alwin and must carry out his hideous orders. His job is to kill Robin and bring Lady Marian to the lord's castle. His personality later evolves from a lonely avenger to a friend of Robin's.
  • Cleo: Cleo is Gilbert's younger sister and was raised as a convent pupil. Through an intrigue by Alwin, she joins the "Knights of the Black Rose" in order to get revenge on Robin, her brother's alleged murderer.
  • Richard the Lionheart: He is the King of England and only appears in the later section. Since an assassination attempt, which he narrowly escaped, he has no memory of his past. From Little John he only gets the name "Big".
  • Prince John: Attempted to come to power in England by assassinating his brother Richard. When meeting Lord Alwine, however, he finds that he far surpasses him when it comes to malice.
