The Rodenbach is an orographically right tributary of the Wapel in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany , with a length of 12.5 km. During its entire course, the Rodenbach primarily flows through meadows, pastures and forests.

River course

The Rodenbach rises in the Senne south of the village of Stukenbrock . There, north of the Wehrbachtal nature reserve (NSG), two individual spring streams unite after a few meters to form a reservoir, from which the Rodenbach forms a drain. This then flows in a south-westerly direction in an approximately parallel course to the Wapel south past the village of Schloß Holte and enters the area of the Holter Forest , the southern edge of which it forms in the area there. The Rodenbach then flows over rural areas through Liemke towards Kaunitz . Northwest of Kaunitz and southeast of Bornholte the water enters the NSG Grasmeerwiesen . Within this area it finally flows into the Wapel.

The Rodenbach overcomes a height difference of 59 meters during its flow section, resulting in an average bed gradient of 4.7 ‰.

Flora and fauna

In the middle reaches the occurrence of bullhead , brown lamprey and brown trout has been confirmed. In the lower reaches of the Verl urban area, the bullhead could e.g. B. in the amount of the NSG Grasmeerwiesen be confirmed.

The occurrence of these fish species in the Rodenbach and in the Wapel had a direct influence on the enactment of a grassland conversion and drainage ban within the grass sea meadows in accordance with the Habitats Directive .
